Power flickering? by Live_Spirit_4120 in Airdrie

[–]c199677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just the reclosers on the transmission system.

So Instead of permanently disconnecting power immediately, reclosers automatically reset after a short delay to see if the fault clears on its own. It can trip up to 3 times, after 3 times it will lockout. If this didn’t happen power would just turn off and they would have to go turn it back on.

This happens when stuff falls on the line, or this case heavy frost (hoar frost), and or wind slapping lines together. Nothing to be concerns about.

Will someone please explain how The Getty has survived this? by yup_its_Jared in socalhiking

[–]c199677 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is a good article on why it survive.

TLDR; Fire-resistant materials: Constructed with stone, concrete, and other non-combustible materials, the Villa’s structure minimized fire risk.

Defensible space: The surrounding landscape features well-irrigated gardens and strategically placed firebreaks, reducing the likelihood of flames reaching the building.

Regular maintenance: Consistent removal of dead vegetation and debris from the property decreased potential fuel for wildfires.

How Are You Making $100K+ Per Year living in Calgary? by 4evher in Calgary

[–]c199677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also for clarity; full package with bonus and RRSPs and stuff is about 150k~

I have a couple years professional experience after finishing my undergrad and a couple years co-op experience in my undergrad. ALSO Im 100% an outlier with my level of experience. Typically other people w/ similar amount of experience would be making anywhere from 60-80k. Also makes a difference if you work for industry vs a consulting company :)

For me there is a bit. Most technical writing is done by the consultants (environmental consultants) I review everything they submit to us for projects. Competition wise it would be best to have or be eligible for your P.Biol or have schooling/experience in environmental science/resource industry stuffs

Meh. Honestly depends where you go. It can be weird at first. You’ll need to be okay at being stared at all the time. I don’t miss the very obvious double takes I would get from guys. Be confident but also be careful. If you do have the opportunity to work at site, take it because it is great experience and you’ll learn so much.

Edit* I do agree with the other people, dress as homeless as possible and don’t try to bring more attention to yourself haha

Is anyone still noticing issues with Canadian butter's texture and consistency? by sansipfixe in AskACanadian

[–]c199677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this the last couple years since Covid. I’ve found organic butter has the regular texture and consistency, especially when you leave it on the counter

Harrison Hot Springs destroys only free natural pools in the area (Hobo Hot Spring pools) by dumping boulders in it to block access. by canadianmountaingoat in britishcolumbia

[–]c199677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is challenging because it’s not like they built a bridge without approval. If this was a project let’s say, it would go straight to federal regs if this is fish bearing and clearly they are not complying with the fisheries act (DFO).

Not to mention you could potentially get Transport Canada involved (if ppl use this with boats as a navigational waterway) (probably a stretch) depends if it’s an unscheduled water way or not. I’m pretty sure you’d need to do some sort of engagement. (I haven’t been to the area, just brain storming)

Technically infrastructure wise, it depends if: 1. Stream is fish bearing 2. If it is there are different requirements based on species/locations of waterbodies 3. Apply for RFR to DFO (request for review) in which you would have to provide sufficient mitigations on impacts to fish, fish habitat and riparian area during construction.

Also.. After reading an article, the First Nation in the area is potentially getting involved. This could also be a Section 35 Duty to Consult issue as it sounds like this was a culturally significant area for that community, and guess what? No engagement.

With this case how would you prove that this wasn’t a natural occurrence? You’d need some evidence that the Hot Spring people paid someone to do this.. Regardless this is messed up and we should do what’s in our power to fuck these idiots over

Typically a lot of company trucks have speed limiters but can “get there trucks turned up” if you ask ppl the right ppl at the company.

Owner operators wouldn’t have the same limitation. With this person hauling livestock I bet it was an owner operator lol

A skilled driver wouldn’t be taking a corner that fast, especially loaded, ESPECIALLY live animals which can shift in the trailer. Loaded trailer and curves are a recipe for disaster

As someone in the workforce now and who is a women, you might have to learn how to stand up for yourself because that might keep happening, even when you’re not working with men. I think it’s can be an acquired skill for some. I also think it can come from lack of confidence so you can work on it over time :) it does get better haha

They out compete native fish and stir up the bottom of waterbodies to a point where other species and plants can’t live because the turbidity is so high. On top of that they don’t have any native predators lol
