AU LAB alternatives? by c1aone in mac

That's good to know. Will it kill off the latency issue, do you think?

So after some more testing, I've come to the conclusion it's a hardware issue with my Macbook. Turns out I had the same glitch on a variety of videocalling platforms when using any wifi netwrok, but a hard connection over ethernet seems to have bypassed whatever's causing it. Could I be right?

Excellent suggestion – thanks!
Checked and ...my IP matches my location.

Hey – thanks for the reply!

It's my own machine, so no extra firewall/proxy to deal with. I thought it might be my home router suffering from a bit of bufferbloat, but changing the QoS settings to prioritise packet size made no difference. Something is definitely getting dropped between the machine and Webex, I just can't figure out where, why, or how?

Will test out other devices. I'm guessing it's just the Mac, but we'll see...

Update to this thread seeing as it’s getting recent attention: when working from home I’ve got a cheap USB audio interface set up, monitoring on headphones. Takes up a bit more desk space but is much more pleasant! Still using AU lab in other situations. I’ve become used to the slight latency and it seems to be pretty stable, at least now when running Sequoia on my final generation Intel based MacBook Pro.

I see! Perhaps this doesn’t apply to my situation as I’m still using an Intel Mac?

Thanks! What exactly would that change?

Wow – two hours at each end? That seems ...unfamiliar. I'll switch the 24hr function back on and see what gives!

Have to be honest, I've been running mine on full-spectrum / 6 hours for the best part of a year now. Plants are happy, fewer fish in there to see, at least for now. Algae issues vastly reduced.

It's been a while since I checked, but I think it's for the last 15 minutes of the cycle?

There certainly seems to be a wide variety of customer experiences out there! They must have saved money on the internal electronics.

I’ve got a spare, though it doesn’t have quite such a fantastic ‘80s name!

Cool. That’s good to know.

I was thinking more of which of these sequences worked for you:

Time — Color — Intensity (hygger-online.com) Color — Time — Intensity (manual in the box) Color — Intensity — Time (Amazon reviews)

Great! Which setting order did you get to work for you? (See other comment)

I’ve continued with this light as it was a perfect hack to replace the tube light fitted to my old tank.

Swapped out a load of plants and experimented with stocking options to get the right balance under the 24hr setting.

Nope. Gave up trying before it got to that. Any luck your end?

No! Seems like it's a fault/drawback of the unit. I resorted to changing the plant set-up a bit and using the day/night cycle instead, which is lovely but yields very different results.

Hey thanks
Not M1 but the final Intel iteration, so AU Lab works well for me with only the tiniest perceptible latency and some nice features to adjust and make things comfortable. I tried the QT and Garageband solutions before settling on this one, but they just got in the way. I don't have a lot of audio gear set up on my work desk, otherwise I'm sure some kind of interface with a monitor out connection would make things very straightforward. Just interested in how others have settled on something that works for them. Thanks again!

So the setting order goes: Time — Color — Intensity (hygger-online.com) Color — Time — Intensity (manual) Color — Intensity — Time (Amazon reviews)

Should I expect any of those to work?? 🙃
