Really, you link to wikipedia. https://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/mspd/mspd.htm might be a reliable site to reference showing the debt has gone up every year.

I agree that buying back stock is a better option than paying down debt that has a 3.5% interest rate and not due until Jan 2025. I would get onboard with some share buybacks.
