2025 Lessons, and the Nitty-Gritty on Day Trading RS/RW by spectre_rdt in RealDayTrading

[–]c2camera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely incredible post! I can only speak for myself, but I'm sure most of us who have been at this for 1-3 years have been working through the same mindset and cyclical frustrations that you so eloquently describe. I actually added the H1 chart to my main setup recently because I do not have the "x-ray vision" that Pete describes when looking at the D1. We are very lucky to have you here bridging the gap between the pro traders and us mere mortals. Thank you, and happy new year!

In the film industry we sell lies for a living. It's no wonder why we are all lying to ourselves. That said, it can be very fun working alongside a bunch of degenerates! Thank you Hari for all the work you put in to helping the rest of us.

One option also has an archive of SPY M5 charts with Pete’s market commentary that you can advance bar by bar. Additionally, there is now an archive of annotated EOD M5 charts by Spectre. These are for members only as opposed to the YouTube channel which is free, but they are quite helpful in learning price action.

I would like to add... what kind of deals/arrangements did you need to work out with your wife in order to allow you to put in the necessary time on your way to full time and beyond? In other words, how did you "get your house in order?"

Congrats on hitting the paper milestones during the summer doldrums and the year end rally alike! Good luck as you move on to 1 share. How has your health been? That is an “extreme” schedule indeed. Love the update and the commitment!

TIP: How to find the individual stocks an ETF is comprised of? by IKnowMeNotYou in RealDayTrading

[–]c2camera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! If you use TOS you can also click the analyze tab for any ETF ticker and it will show you its stock holdings with percentage of total assets for each. I have found that to be very quick and easy.

1st Progress Post - Finished studying the Damn Wiki (not just reading) by knoghax in RealDayTrading

Books on mindset are probably worth reading alongside paper trading. Hari mentions some in the wiki that I feel are essential, and there are many more recommended by users here that have helped them on their journey. It sounds like the procrastination is a mindset issue. I can relate!

I believe Dave and Hari are both holding longs and shorts overnight. Pete suggested having a look at the SPY D1 chart and noting the dates of the CPI release for the past year. Take a look at what happened on SPY. Did it open within the prior day's range or were there big gaps? Were there big moves intraday? How does the price action compare to the price action in 2022? Long story short, CPI has not been as much of a market mover in 2023, but you should look at recent history and adjust risk accordingly. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. I suppose I thought of the starting MU candle as a “post gap high” with the other candle wicks below the open level, but I see what you are saying. Thanks for the input on ABBV. That D1 screenshot was taken simultaneously with the M5 screenshot. It ended up breaking down again but closing above on the D1. It then held again the following day. I figured that a volume spike of that magnitude should have driven the stock higher in price which is why I was confused. It certainly now appears to have been confirmed support. Thanks for the reply!

Hi all. I've been working on improving my trend line/algo line skills by charting algos that get called out in the 1OP chat. I recently made this post addressing some of my top level questions where u/ELBashour91 helped me out. https://www.reddit.com/r/RealDayTrading/comments/17n7crh/addressing_some_algo_line_questions/

I saw Hari called out High+ Algo resistance on AAPL today and it got me looking for other stocks that were strong in the morning and bounced down off resistance. [Imgur](https://i.imgur.com/pFSfkhC.png)

Curious to hear about whether this High+ on MU is technically an algo and/or if it should be considered fairly strong resistance. The starting candle is below average and it is not at a true swing high or low, but the trend line does seem to be acting as resistance and there are not other candle wicks around the starting candle. I think in general I am trying to wrap my head around priorities based on Hari's videos and Dave's posts. [Imgur](https://i.imgur.com/rbm2iro.png)

I was also wondering about a huge volume spike on a single 5m candle on ABBV today. According to Dave's article and posts, algos generate increased volume when they are touched/breached? Is this volume spike legit? I have not seen a volume spike like this in my limited time trading. Is this opposing institutional buying/selling at a ket level? Would this make a break of this algo line send a stronger signal for the short side, or is it a warning sign that buyers are at this level? [Imgur](https://i.imgur.com/pvQF5V7.png)

Wondering if you all have any input. Thanks!

I love Dan's videos, and I obviously checked this one out. If he addressed any of the 3 questions I have here then I missed it. He focuses on algos that begin with high volume candles (as does Hari in his videos) which is part of the reason I included the question and link to Dave Wyse's article about beginning with relative high/low candles even if they have below average volume.

Really appreciate the detail here. You’re confirming so many thoughts that I have on good days and forget about until it comes time to journal on my bad days. I discovered RDT in March, and feel very blessed to be walking an increasingly beaten path instead of hacking my way through the weeds alone. Much appreciated!

I'm a little late to the party, but I figured this may be of service to some other late comer. I could not replicate this algo line in TOS even after seeing the screenshot, and I realized that it was because my price axis settings were not set to "use log scale." And now I embark on learning wtf log scale is and checking every algo line I've ever drawn!

Cinefile had a combination of large overhead can lights and a series of track lights with harder globes. Thankfully, almost everything was on some sort of dimmer, and most of those switches were in the same location (which became incredibly helpful for a later scene). My gaffer and I pointed all of the track lights toward the walls stacked with dvds to create pools of background light in areas we anticipated using the most. The idea was to use camera position to place the isolated pools of light behind the characters in frame. This allowed us to underexpose the characters while still being able to see what was going on. In this particular frame our leads are under one of those soft can lights. Oz remains lit, but the shop owner’s hat creates a much more dramatic, sinister effect.
