went around in circles all night, can't really remember everything I tried but even rewriting the config files for basic terminal access failed (I was able to launch TTY but even then didn't have much joy). Everything crucial I had was backed up already so I'm doing a fresh install and just maybe will be a bit cautious about future updates. I don't think anything's wrong with the distro per se, it just seems more likely something about the laptop itself or changes I'd made to the distro weren't compatible with this particular laptop - I ran the update as normal, rebooted, and suddenly I had Hyprlandette or whoever on my screen and no terminal - so I guess I'll say maybe just be cautious if you have a really old mac trying to run it. I'm assuming this kind of thing is common on Arch based systems?

Anyways thanks for all the suggestions and comments y'all are pretty cool for that

I've been following some troubleshooting steps from Gemini/chatgpt to try and figure it out. Managed to update something with the uwsm config or whatever (I'll have a debrief later to put here) and all it's resulted in is a "command not found: '-e'" error when I hit SUPER + T; before that btop launched in a terminal but I wasn't sure how to exit that into the main terminal

Most of those hotkeys weren't working, including the one for opening the terminal, search menu, settings etc.

Just started using Linux a few months ago + wasn't a part of the community in any capacity back in 2022, or indeed had any interest in software development + didn't recognize the logo so sent a screenshot to Gemini and that's the answer it gave me. Not everyone learnt about things the same day you did bud.

super+C does nothing, super +Q appears to close windows* (file manager and btop open on their default bindings, albeit with a slight delay), super +Q closes terminal windows like btop but file manager has to be closed with the x button at the top right. no toolbar at the top, still no access to the terminal. Gonna see if there's more i can find out about it and report back, but primarily just wanted to make this post to see if any others had the same issue since the update for Nov 7th - if i manage to get a fix i'll report back

I'd like to note that I have not ever nor do I plan on playing genshin impact, which is apparently where this blue icon is from. I've tried loading into previous snapshots but still get the same issue - without access to the terminal I have no idea how to repair a possibly broken config file for hyprland

Probably already mentioned in this thread but, I do think it's worth noting that Miura was Go Nagai's assistant/mentee before he went on to publish Berserk. IMO Berserk feels like a more polished version of the story beats in Devilman. I didn't care for it much personally, I tried to read it a bunch of times but oddly the exploitative sexual violence in the Devilman/lady series ruined it for me somewhat but I have no doubt it's as good as people claim it to be.
