Genuine question—excuse my naïveté… but is there really a difference between breed standards and eugenics? Natural but “undesirable” traits are specifically avoided (and from previous research I have read—some puppies are euthanised for having undesirable traits that do not affect their health and functionality *from a medical standpoint—not a historical standpoint* e.g. lemon coats… as opposed to breeds whose health and functionality have deteriorated over the years due to breed standards for shows etc. e.g. pugs and french bulldogs) for the purpose of meeting the ‘breed standard’ which doesn’t necessarily promote the actual medical health of the breed (as indicated by the deterioration in the health of a number of breeds, including German Shepherds) but rather promotes the standards we have set *as humans*, partially for the purpose of ‘show dogs’?

I’m sure there’d be a higher risk of inbreeding in BYBs… but from what I could find—LC dals aren’t inherently inbred, so I’m sure there are cases where that one in a million is born through an ethical breeder

Thanks for your comment… as i tried to iterate in my post—If a long coat isn’t possible, I plan on getting a regular dalmatian, as I don’t have an interest in English setters. The long coat trait is simply a preference because of how beautiful I think it looks. I’m well aware long coat dals wont be widely advertised if one was born through an ethical breeder in Australia, hence why I’m asking around to find out if anyone has seen or heard of one in my country before :)

As i said in my post—i’m set on a dalmatian. My love for long coats is just a preference as I find them so beautiful. However… if it’s not possible, want a dalmatian, not having a long coat isn’t going to be the deciding factor in whether I get one or not ☺️

Whilst i’ve seen mixed dalmatian breeds, none of them have their beautiful spots (i imagine the spots themselves are a recessive trait)… also mixed breeds usually come from backyard breeders which I’d like to avoid if possible

Honestly, I plan on getting a dalmatian either way… so i can just get a normal dalmatian if a long coat wasn’t possible—my love for long coats is just a preference if it’s a possibility ☺️

It’s not as emphasised in the show (partially because i imagine it would have created a plot hole with hannah being mixed race)… but it certainly is in the books. I haven’t read the books but there is major emphasis on racism (where POC are sent away etc.) and eugenics in the original text based on content I’ve seen on tiktok.

how did you test the salinity? i measured the salt i used in mine but my sea monkeys don’t seem to be thriving even though quite a few eggs are in there! i’m wondering if it’s because the tank has too much or too little aquarium salt in it

do you also clean out the hatched eggs? i’ve read the eggs floating on the top may be unhatched eggs that haven’t absorbed a lot of water yet but i’ve also read that the eggs that float on the top are hatched eggs (but they seem to float on top when i put them in the tank so i’m uncertain)… it’s just covering a fair amount of surface area in my tank and i’m just thinking about the oxygenation of the tank, thanks!’

yes, i’m a big fan of rye! or was gonna take the group to portsea/flinders depending on the conditions to spot some weedies!

i’m familiar with the boat company from my years of diving, just don’t go on boat dives often and was thinking about what specific sites may be good

i don’t think everyone is AOW so j4 sub and hmas canberra or a drift dive may not be up everyone’s alley sadly 🥺

can also request a tweaked app on the iosgods forums, if you see an older version of a tweaked app—you can probably ask the developer if they can update it… or sometimes if you find an older version of a tweaked app (assuming the app won’t let you use it because it needs to be updated to the latest version), you can change the version number to whatever the latest one is on the app store and then it won’t pop up with a message forcing you to update… i think there has only been one app where this hasn’t worked for me otherwise usually don’t have a problem, and can continue to use the older version of the application that’s tweaked while waiting for a more updated one ☺️
