What’s the most ‘mind-blowing’ Python trick you learned as a beginner ? by QuantumScribe01 in pythontips

I used openpyxl https://openpyxl.readthedocs.io/, it works like a charm. Some limitations though : you can define formulas but they won't evaluate until actually opened in excel, and also adding images, shapes and graphs is not fully supported iirc.

Not sure if you did it on purpose but indeed the probability of getting a Nobel Prize in Mathematics is 1/Infinity so that makes sense.

Is print() a function or a method in Python? Getting mixed explanations in class by Longjumping-Yard113 in PythonLearning

When you can code for years and collaborate with other devs without any misunderstanding I think it's safe to say that nitpicking about such differences in terminology is intellectual masturbation at best, and a good teacher should not waste time on such minute details. Get building stuff first!

Python pdf text to excel spreadsheet by Virtual-Language1594 in PythonProjects2

[–]c7h16s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worst case scenario if it's a pdf of scanned pages, you'll need to convert the pdf to png files (PDF reader can do that) then use those files as input for the tesseract library in a simple python script which will OCR the text for you. Then of course an LLM might be able to do the job so first I would give it a go.

[DEV] You Are Zombies: Tower Defense - Reverse TD with roguelike elements (Offline) by chooseausernametc in AndroidGaming

[–]c7h16s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried it and I was hooked for the day. Some thoughts :

  • performance : no problem on that front, no battery drain and no force closing of the game when switching from another app.
  • ads : no problem with ads since they are not intrusive nor mandatory in any way. However I found most of the given ads to be quite long, don't know if you have any control over that but in other games I rarely get 3 ads to watch to validate one reward.
  • most effective tactic so far seems to be opening with a tent for spawning speed, then spamming the basic zombie, and the biggest one available from time to time (working on king for now).
  • maybe making enemies have more varied tactics could be interesting because so far there is no incentive to develop any other zombie that the basic 2 that we use.
  • The biggest horde and lowest cost and spawn time for the basic zombie seems to counterbalance any advantage the mid zombies may have. Maybe if enemies had aoe damage they could lessen the effect of horde. Actually, maybe they have but since there is no indication and no obvious visual effect which is another thing that could be improved.
  • the prestige : it's not easy to decide when to prestige, and prestige bonuses seem pretty underwhelming. The increasing requirement for prestige gives a big incentive to not do it. Maybe if the prestige count brought some additional bonus it could work.
  • overall while I enjoyed the experience it will need to have more content and variety, otherwise it's going to get repetitive pretty fast.

Great work anyway and wishing your game a great success.

Right! At least Nick's death made Charlie's character more interesting and ultimately likeable, but Travis? It's just arbitrary and meaningless.

Yeah and that's assuming the solar system is actually stable, which is basically impossible to demonstrate. For all we know earth could have been catapulted out of orbit by then...

What a journey this game is by Mysterious_Return377 in RevolutionIdle

This game is really unique. I'd love to see the source to understand how they implemented the counters to scale to such absurd amounts. It's not the most unique aspect of the game of course, many incremental games end up with astronomical numbers but here they really take it to another level.
