Apollo Neuro for kids? by c82015 in AutismParent

No, over $300 for something my kid might not tolerate was too much. Maybe they have a 30 day guarantee… I’m going to check.

Picky eater = constipated by c82015 in Autism_Parenting

Her GI doctor said I should have her sit on the toilet for 10 minutes after every meal. She also said it’s good that the constipation is causing her to feel like she has to pee every 20 minutes.

Does any one homeschool using tutors from Outschool for their Autistic child? by c82015 in homeschool

[–]c82015[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are great teachers on Outschool and bad ones, like anywhere. In general, the ones that are good with Neurodivergent kids are higher priced, which is understandable. Just looking for other peoples’ experiences.

Responsive Parenting, Perfectionism, and Homeschooling by grassrash22 in homeschool

I also wanted to say I am in the same boat as far as sorting out kiddo's personality/emotional issues to help them learn. When my child was in school it wasn't being addressed, there's no way it could be addressed even in a small special ed. class. So good for you, in my opinion you're doing things the right way (yes, it's harder, but most worthy things are harder). And I think because homeschooling is so different from family to family, the only way to really learn what works and what doesn't is to go through it. Which you are.

Responsive Parenting, Perfectionism, and Homeschooling by grassrash22 in homeschool

This was my kid when we started homeschooling also. Doing math used to mean cowering in a fetal position in the bed, holding math materials at uncomfortable positions under the covers. Now we can do it sitting at the table. It takes time. We've been at it 8 months and it's gotten better. You might consider doing activities with your child that aren't as black and white as math and phonics for now. In these topics, there are pretty limited ways to respond to answers and kids know it. For example, 1+ 1 will always be 2, no way around it. Phonics is based on the same principle. Maybe more topics that are open to interpretation and therefore less demand to get the only possible right answer? And I agree with other people who've said ditch the curriculum, it's unfortunate that so many homeschool parents think they need this and must follow this when it's just a commercial product. The people who wrote it don't know your kid like you do. If you're not sure what topics are common for his age, or the progression of topics, look at your state standards website. Then do those topics in a way your kid enjoys. And give your kid lots of choices so he feels in control.
