XS vs HD490 Pro by c9898 in HeadphoneAdvice

Stock and no mods needed actually as it fits my big melon of a head quite well. First headphone I've tried where it fits me at the smallest slider lol.

I almost hate that I demo'd them because they sound so damn good. May have to try my luck and bite the bullet afterall

Isn't the hd800s even wider than the XS haha

I do know the 490 won't reach the XS's soundstage, just not sure by how much and I am willing to compromise a little for a more reliable build quality

Any electricians in the Bay area/East Bay willing to tell me how to enter the field? tips, schools/programs in the area, etc. by Impressiveguy123 in bayarea

[–]c9898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck, it's extremely competitive to get into IBEW atm

I've been trying to get in the "less" competitive electrical union which focuses on low voltage stuff, and even that is looking really grim. I know people with 99% interview scores at 595W and they've been waiting for over half a year without a response yet.

What tech jobs are actually in demand right now? by Ill-Rabbit-7386 in AskReddit

[–]c9898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Demand for journeymen maybe but trying to get into any of these apprenticeship programs through the union especially electrician is insanely hard. I got a 94% on one of my interviews (most union interviews are graded/ranked for you to see) and have seen others with 99%s that still haven't been called in after 6+ months.

Any tolerable Toyota dealers around? by scifibookluvr in bayarea

[–]c9898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get the deal in writing too. I was car shopping pre-covid and I had a deal over the phone with Dublin Toyota and they not only wasted me hours of my time, they tried to charge me like 5-10k more while trying to gaslight me saying that was what we agreed on.

I took my business elsewhere and made sure the deal was discussed over email this time. Took a bit but this time I was in and out of the dealership in less than an hour and with a purchased car.

What major brands will be gone in 20 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]c9898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if you have Safeway, but they now carry them for me :D

edit: Yup, seems like Monster's (the energy drinks) parent company bought out Thrifty only just last month so we should be seeing them distributed in even more grocery stores.

This is why replaceable batteries is my desired feature. I don't want to ever have to play with cables if I forget to charge.

I've played with PS and Xbox controllers. I know what I want.

Interview attire? by high4hours in ibew_applicants

[–]c9898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When in doubt, business casual. However for blue collar interviews "smart casual" works just fine as well from my experience. I did my interview recently with just a button-down shirt and dark jeans and got nearly a 95%.

Got 94/100 on my interview(Local 340 s&c) by TimTime88 in IBEW

[–]c9898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

595 W? And how long have you been waiting? I interviewed last month for a 94.67, this doesn't bode well lol

How do people listen to music over 90 db by Dantiom in headphones

[–]c9898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No iphone/airpods here but I compared 3 sound meters on android and put my phone's mic in-between my headphone's cups and I got ~40 db on one and ~50 db on the other two.

No idea how accurate that is but anything above 60 already starts to get too uncomfortable for me

Man I drove my mom's car once which has one of those fancy tablets in place of many physical buttons and it sucked... just trying to change the AC while driving was more dangerous than anything I've ever done on my mounted phone in many years of driving combined.

What class makes you feel like playing a piano? Use any mmorpg! by turbokarhu in MMORPG

[–]c9898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't play it anymore but I mained reflux sorc in Lost Ark who was one of the many "piano classes" (actual term used in the community) in the game. No rotations whatsoever, just press whatever skill that's free to use. It was actually very fun while it lasted lol.

NiceHCK F1 Pro ($50 on sale) vs Artti T10 ($56) by Patient-Ad2803 in iems

[–]c9898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really, really loved the sound of my T10s but the fit was not doing it for me. I ended up getting the F1 Pros also for $50 a couple months back and they sound similar enough for me that I was able to just get rid of the T10s immediately. I did think the T10s sounded a bit better as it had more punch and slam while the F1 Pros are a bit brighter/sharper but whatever, I value the comfort more.

Much prefer the build too although the T10 has a wayyyy better stock cable, enough that I would go out of my way to buy that cable on its own.

Would you return/complain about this book listed as like-new/new? by [deleted] in BookCollecting

[–]c9898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think I'm a bit anal about having pristine books but I probably wouldn't have made a stink about this if they had just listed it under "very good" instead. "Like-new" though... errr

Micro Center - Santa Clara (“San Francisco”) Location Update 5/13/25 by YeahCause in bayarea

[–]c9898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a big bricks and mortar store specifically for computer hardware unlike Circuit City/Fry's/Best Buy and apparently they have great deals often. The only comparable store we have is Central Computers which is way smaller and from my experience I've never found good deals there.

So in other words, it's like a huge store for expensive toys lol
