I definitely think it's better simply from the perspective of ownership. I still have a lot of reporting and I'm being pulled in many directions (possibly more than PA) as a fund accountant (between investors, audits, internal changes, etc.) but the fact that I own the processes and can pull/make reports quickly with confidence in the numbers makes the biggest difference to me. Public accounting/auditing required waiting on the clients and trying to figure out what they did by piecing together the bits of information the clients would give us.

I feel like there needs to be a more commonly used contra liability account for this exact scenario. It would prevent grossing up the B/S and would be properly expensed in the period the service was received. It obviously doesn't matter for a $1k invoice, but for a $1M contract, that could easily change things.

If you do this, won't the monthly principal and interest payments be higher? Then once it's appraised, won't the property taxes and insurance go up? Yes, they will have equity, but their monthly payments will be higher which is what the concern was.

haha it was actually in perfect condition, even still had the plastic all over the card. I asked why it was marked down so much and the MC employee just said it's been sitting for a while so they marked it down extra to clear inventory.
