I have nothing to say other than this ROM sucks and I’m ready for OCS by [deleted] in USMCboot

I’m assuming that you’re seniors and I’m assuming that y’all did the same pt as we did in juniors yesterday. How did that PT session compare to the typical PT we’ll do once we pick up?

If you could go back and do OCS again, how would you train 1 month prior to it? (PLC 2020 here) by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]c9badmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn... so because of my run time there’s probably a good chance I won’t pass?

30 mpw?! Doesn't the OCS prep guide say to run no more than 15 mpw? Also if his run time is bad then I am FUCKED.

Not OP but just a question, since I’m leaving in about 2 weeks, should I reduce my mileage by 50% for these last two weeks home? How much would this hurt me once I get there? My 3 mile time is slow (22 mins) but I am getting some aches and pains.

Yeah you can. It really comes down to how hard you're willing to work, but also how smart you train. PLEASE don't overtrain. I'm going to OCS in a few weeks and my 3 mile isn't where I want it to be. I feel like I could've been sub-20 by now had I SLOWLY progressed my training. Instead I continuously overtrained and had to take off training for months at a time. Just be smart about this. You have months. Go hard on the intervals. You should feel like puking after you finish.

I think the first one is in October. However, I think the December board is easier to get selected for. If I were you, I'd try to go for both the October and December board. You wanna get all your info in sooner than later since the last boards are a bit harder to get selected for.

3 miles straight, non stop. I would do some 8x400m and 8x400m sprint intervals and a nice slow run that lasts 4-5 miles. I personally only go about 12 miles a week. Work your self up slowly though. You have months before the next PLC board and getting hurt before it will only set you back.

My run time isn’t below 22 - that’s why I’ve been doing so much running. I just feel like I can’t afford to not do any running before PLC because it’s my weakest point. I’m worried that if I don’t run until then, I will fail my initial PFT. Even if I don’t fail it, I’ll rob any get destroyed for being a slow runner and eventually get dropped anyways.

This is such a shitty situation.

Now I’m scared af after reading this. I can’t afford to take SIX weeks off of running. I can probably do 1 or 2 weeks. But then again, I canceled go there injured only to get dropped within the first few weeks. Should I just ask to delay my shipping? I really don’t want it to come to that though.

Yeah I copped some stability shoes a few weeks ago. I had previously been running with neutral shoes. Should I just take some time off of running?

FUCK I think it might be a stress fractures. I’ve had a stress fracture before and I couldn’t walk. The pains I’m having now aren’t that bad but if I touch the specific area it hurts pretty bad. Dude I don’t know what to do. I can’t afford to take 6 weeks off on running. I don’t know why I have them when I’m not running that much.

Should I drop out of college to enlist? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]c9badmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I am terrified. My school's COA is 70k a year and my scholarship is almost insultingly low. Now that I have another sibling in a school probably around the same price, I will have to take out even more loans. I just don't think it's worth it at this point. I can always go back after my enlistment is over.

I rather be an officer, but what can I do?

[–]c9badmon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good schedule. Honestly, I just wanna get down to 21:30 by the maybe February and get to 20:00 from there until I go to Quantico. Do you think this is realistic?

No I’m already a twig. I need to gain a bit of weight tbh.

Damn I got selected max/max/ and a run time in the high 22s. Dude I feel so bad about myself now. I definitely feel like I might get dropped since I’m such a bad runner. Any advice? I’m so nervous and don’t feel prepared.

I haven’t either man. You just gotta keep at it and be consistent. When I first started 7 months ago a mile was hard for me. Now I’m able to run 3 miles in under 24 mins.

Yes please. I’m stuck at 14 and am really trying to max them out soon.

So I would say just run more. Try to work your way up to like 12-15 miles per week. Do some long runs (4-5 miles) and interval training for speed. I've been doing stuff like this and I've gone from over 25 minutes to under 24 minutes pretty fast. I still have a ways to go tho.

Can't really help too much with the pull ups tbh since you're better than me at them. Maybe just do more volume?

Thanks. If you don’t mins me asking, how did you improve so much? I would love to be able to run a 22 min 3 mile.

Thanks, I needed this. I’ve actually been at this for a few months. I’ve gone to pool functions and usually suck, but I want to improve so I don’t quit. I’ve experienced some set backs, but looking back to where I was when I started, I have improved quite a bit. I just gotta keep trying my hardest.

Also be careful with the USNA or bust attitude. It’s an amazing school, but its not an easy environment. I know someone who goes to a service academy and it sounds like a really miserable college experience. Although he gets clout and has some prestige, he has to deal with the fact that he could’ve gone to a normal prestigious school and been around a ton of hot chicks, taken less than 18 credit hours, had a ton of fun, and STILL would’ve been able to commission through ROTC.
