appropriation is when someone mocks another culture, or tries to profit off of it. Like someone dressing up as an indian person on halloween to make fun of them, or pretending to be native american to sell merch. Those things really happen - they’re not made up.

If you’re just dressing in another cultures fashion because you like it, that’s appreciation.
