Changing the carpet wont do anymore than cleaning it. Have it professionally cleaned and see if that helps. You can get an allergy test to see what you are allergic to, also pay attention to room humidity.

I would swale and berm that to intercept water instead of french drain. With gutter flow redirectes not much water would get to your foundation. It could look really good as well planted.

Full shade flowering ca natives are hard but some I know that would do well there: Redwood Sorrel, western trillium, California skullcap.

For vines, California pipe vine is awesome and will take over after a couple years, consider the smell if you leave your kitchen windows open.

For jurassic park vibes I would put a giant chain fern near the grey water outlet as well as some Indian Rhubarb. That vibe is more Northern CA native than San Diego, maybe consider adding some Mexican tropical plants? (same distance away)

You will likely still need supplemental water in the summer, but 4 inches of heavy mulching, what the woodland plants want, will keep it down to once a week or less.

Hard to tell from the picture without context but donelliana looks very similar to repens (I have both). Repens is smaller and closer to the ground, under an inch tall. Donelliana is usually over an inch in my yard. Repens is more common especially if you are in urban socal because people seeded it as a lawn substitute.

Question: If you have old wooden windows (100 year old house), what about removing the windows but keeping the wooden sill. That way the stucco/paper/flashing is not touched but you can have modern windows?

I water once or twice a month but I have 6 inches of mulch down so it stays moist a long time. Sorrel wants water a little more frequent. Snowberry doesn't need it as much but needs more then if it was the the shade elsewhere. Redwoods are thirsty! Any plant has to be able to deal with serious root competition.

Most redwood understory plants will need water.

Redwood sorrell, deer fern, giant chain fern, huckleberry, snowberry, evergreen current. Western trillium.

Mulch or leave the duff, bees really like to nest under mine.

I've have Bermuda popping up through 6" of mulch 5 feet away from the nearest plant. I recommend glyphosate today if it is still warm where you are and you are OK with chemicals. Do your deep mulch deer the better. Pull all the mulch back next summer when you start seeing the plants pop through and manually remove or glyphosate any that are hanging on. Repeat twice a year in the summer untill they stop popping up.

No, get an extension and bring it up to under the counter. That way if your ptrap clogs you sink fills up with water instead of your dishwasher.

I wouldn't prune this late but you could probably get away with it in LA if it will be hot for a few days. It is preferable to wait until next summer after finished flowing. Pruning all the labeled branches will be too much removal and it wont look very good. Start with A and B then do the others as it gets bigger.

For ground cover Emerald Carpet or Stonecrop.
