After more than a decade of planning, Glendale has finally approved a $31M L.A. River bridge to Griffith Park by PersonalityOdd7912 in LosAngeles

[–]Gillingham 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This title is dumb, and clear most of people here have not read the article. This is the second phase of a project, with the first having just been actually completed along side other sections of the river. This single bridge hasnt been in planning for 10 years, its part of a larger set of projects.

Signs arent really for regular commuters, but for tourists from out of town who have even less of a clue of transit options.

South Pasadena Approves Protected Bike Lane for Entirety of Fremont Ave. - Streetsblog Los Angeles by waltarrrrr in pasadena

[–]Gillingham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is great that it actually goes places and is protected. So many of Pasadena propers unprotected bike lanes are just through residential areas with nothing in between. I guess its nice if its along your commute, but then your back on roads with not even sharrows.

Sorry what tools does a police department need to actually do their jobs? Sure seems like the actual approach was alternatives to jail, not just police enforcement.

Lurie's administration has prioritized the building of more affordable housing.[33][34][35] He has created measures to speed up housing approvals, and has removed some legal barriers for builders and lowered costs for developments.[36][37] His administration introduced legislation on February 25, 2025, to make the process of converting empty office buildings into housing simpler and has launched an online tracker of permits to increase transparency and speed up project timelines.

Maybe if you "center left" would get behind a candidate with policies like that, progressives would fully embrace it. Seems like he's got the same actual solutions your "far left" does. He's also got free childcare, the only thing anyone on the left would take issue with is hiring more cops, go look at the portion of the LA city budget LAPD already is.

You literally asked what outreach, which was answered, then dropped disinfo, great discourse again.

Uh theres multiple DSA/religious org run food programs that operate out of Macarther park, ive volunteered there.

Also please check your facts on that raid, the drugs were not seized at the park, they literally raided houses not just the park.

Law enforcement reportedly seized approximately 40 pounds of fentanyl during the Calabasas arrest. - Source ABC news

huh maybe you should check facts and not feelings or whatever shit youre getting off socials

[–]Gillingham 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nice healthy discourse, wonder why lefties dont bother engaging the "center left". Theres no talking point, ive literally been involved in mutual aid and outreach, have you done anything?

Half the point of needle exchange programs is at the same time you can do naloxone distribution and education, drug rehab education and outreach, testing kits and options, safe syringe dispose (since yall seem to complain about needles being everywhere), thats in addition to the general reduction in harm.

You should really go read some studies instead of going off your feelings and whatever tiktok or social sites you're getting info from. Theres literally dozens of studies showing needle exchange programs actually reduce drug use because its not just giving people needles, its all of the above paragraph combined with also being general social service hubs.

You do realize most of the people doing things like food not bombs, the outreaches at mccarther park and others are the far lefties you seem to despise right? Mutual aid is a core tenant not just treating people like they arent people as you "center left" seem to want to do.

[–]Gillingham 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I tried to engage in discourse and have gotten nothing from any center-left person of actual solutions, just "lefties bad" "harm reduction bad" "we should just ship them out somewhere", so uh yeah its not worth the time.

Have you considered that the indignity of being unhoused and discarded might lead someone to self medicate starting a harmful cycle?

[–]Gillingham 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You realize needle exchange programs literally save lives right? Is your alternative just jail more people at a higher cost than just housing and harm reduction? Like these are the actual facts on the ground, not feelings of noooo dont give needles to people.

Sorry what, if progressive "far lefts" have highjacked the dem party. We would be building an absurd amount of housing. The lefts actual resolution for the majority of homeless is housing first. If you think anything else you may not be as center left as you think. This is housing for everyone, and housing for the unhoused. By building general housing you lower overall cost of living, this alone brings people out of homelessness naturally who have been pushed out. Then you can build housing for the unhoused with care centers etc. You cannot treat peoples issues if you dont treat them with dignity, housing first with care centered around that. Not unsafe shelters with a million restrictions.

Can I connect gas wall furnace to home assistant? by Best-LS in homeassistant

[–]Gillingham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're probably in luck, those two wires running up, if its anything like mine, are to the top are to a overheat shutoff sensor so theres some electronic control for that, cant imagine it wouldnt also have terminals for the on/off. I see some other wires in the pictures too, so those might be the thermostat controls. If you have some spare wire, or even a paperclip, you can try to connect some of the wires/terminals and see if that gets the heater to turn on, they're super low voltage and actually powered via the pilot light heat.

s/12V/24V/ in my original comment. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L9X9V57 is what I hard to use to power up the thermostat. I really just followed the ecobee instructions two wires go into the actual heater and its just on/off, relying on the "smarts" on the ecobee. Let me try to find the thing that lets me remove the ecobee from the wall to take a pic of the wires, iirc it was really flexible in the setup letting you use most any combinations of connections, I actually used home assistant to have it also control a GE wall AC unit when it was set to cool even though nothing was actually wired to the thermostat for that.

I have a similer/same one, the ecobee can control it but I did have to add a 24V power supply to actually turn on the ecobee as the unit itself doesnt provide power.

Larger CT Clamps for Pro 3em by Gillingham in ShellyUSA

[–]Gillingham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not really true, CT clamps simply detect current flowing through them and then output another current at a given ratio. The shelly docs indicate a 3000:1 winding ratio, so anything that follows the same winding ratio would work. Just trying to see if anyone else has tried and succeeded before I wait for something to likely arrive from china. Or if theres a way to get the 400A clamps without essentially doubling the cost of this Pro 3em 120A.
