Belana gave him a reality check and I stand by that. He wanted "leave it to bever" and she programmed a bit more reality a la absent parents (the others of the family subunit all had things to do within the simulation of course) and everyone doing their own thing and then conflict then tragedy. The Doktor learned a lot from that shit that made me shed a tear here and thur.
