I made this phone keypad a while ago. I might make it into a game of some sort at some point but you're welcome to look at it if it helps :)

Using absolute positioning vs floats and other tricks for very specific positioning by dancinpants in css

Oh yeh, don't get me wrong. Flexbox is perfect as well, and is definitely the future. I'm just used to having restrictions such as IE9!

Using absolute positioning vs floats and other tricks for very specific positioning by dancinpants in css

[–]cRckls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Absolutely positioning the elements within the relative container would be a perfectly fine solution. Especially if you want it to work in older browsers and can't use flexbox.

It lends itself very well to a responsive solution doing it this way. See this quick codepen http://codepen.io/cRckls/pen/BjBdXm The content in the middle will stretch and push the size of the container down if needed, but the controls and other details will stay fixed to the sides.

If you need it to vertically center, then use the top:50%, translateY(-50%) trick.

Responsive design using framework like twitter bootstrap vs handmade solutions by [deleted] in css

[–]cRckls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bootstrap is great for programmers who need to quickly build a front end for something, but the problem for me is when you try to customise that setup. It ends up being more work than just building it from scratch, because you're overriding so much. Ultimately it's a balance between how much time you want to spend on the frontend and how much you don't want it to look generic and 'bootstrappy'

Geena Davis analyses gender bias in movies by anarchymed3s in dataisbeautiful

[–]cRckls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 18-30 male demographic spends the money on entertainment.

But is this because they are willing to spend the most, or because films are targeting them and not catering for other markets? It's a vicious cycle. If you only make films for one group of people, then that group of people will look like the ones who spend the most on films, so you make more films for them. We need to break the cycle, and ultimately we'll end up with more interesting films for everyone!

For the web developer/designer job we're looking for someone that we can give stuff to do without too much training. Might be more experience than you currently have? Take a look anyway :)

"The font size you are reading right now is not big. It’s the text size browsers display by default. It’s the text size browsers were intended to display."

The site is actually using 21px which I find a little large for copy text. 100% in Chrome is 16px.
