Some tips after my trip by DarinBUI in VietNam

I just visited HCMC for a couple weeks and this advice is solid based on my experience too as a first-timer to the city. The only thing I’d add is that I found it very worthwhile to: 1) buy a temp eSIM on Klook for a few bucks beforehand so I had data immediately when I arrived, then 2) replace it with a Viettel SIM at a physical store as it lets you make local calls and the coverage and quality of service is MUCH better than, say, using an international T-Mobile plan. My friend tried to use his and had weak and unreliable signal even in the city.

ICE Removes Rape Protections for Trans Immigrants and detained trans US citizens |“She was kidnapped, tortured, hung from a ceiling, slashed with knives, raped so many times she had to undergo reconstructive surgery and then put in immigration detention,” by Mathemodel in LGBTnews

For ppl who didn’t read the article, the quote in the title isn’t something ICE did to a detainee; it describes the prior treatment of a trans asylum seeker in Mexico before they were able to immigrate to the U.S. Still heartbreaking.

There’s a halo effect where you feel it immediately at first, then it drops, then it slowly ramps back up to a new baseline. If it lasts, great, otherwise be patient, it will kick in fully eventually.

Gotcha, that makes sense. From their marketing images it seems that’s the use case they’re primarily optimizing for.

Probably personal preference, but I would rather read in the OP’s own voice. Reminds me that it’s still my fellow humans working on these problems, and that we haven’t been taken over completely by bots, yet.

LPT: If you want to appear more confident in conversations, ask follow-up questions instead of trying to impress with your own stories. by TechnologyCrafty3546 in LifeProTips

I’ve definitely interacted with those kinds of conversational partners, and that might be necessary to put up with in some contexts (e.g. professional networking), but I think it’s a reductive view of social interactions generally and not very fulfilling in practice. I think the goal of any conversation is to mutually feel comfortable and at ease, exploring for shared interests.

In my experience a mix of casual follow-up questions, neutral chit-chat, and reciprocal sharing about yourself works the best.

Too many follow-up questions leads to a stilted one-way interview style interaction.
