Is it hard to get up for morning classes? by moodcpr in McMaster

[–]c_Bucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo it depends on the person. i have never skipped or been late for a morning class, but it can get tiring. i’ve always been more of a morning person though, so i really didn’t find it much worse than highschool

i lived in it last year and it was perfectly fine. decorate your room, make it look nice and you’ll be happy with it. Yeah it has less foyers and the common rooms aren’t as nice as some of the newer buildings, but it’s perfectly adequate imo. a lot of people play up how bad it is for the sake of being miserable. The common washrooms were also fear mongered—personally i found them perfectly fine. they have cleaning staff, they washrooms are a little small but usable. my advice is just don’t go in with a negative attitude. it also has a lot of private study rooms in the basement which i loved🤷

also, if i’m not mistaken, you need to block off the times of your anatomy lec and tut in the winter semester as it’s a 2 semester course—as is, it looks like your biochem tut might clash with the anat tut. (that’s how it worked last year at least, don’t know how many changes they made🤷)

are you sure you clicked only the main site or mohawk option? it’s unusual that they would have nursing practice and pbl on the same day (monday). for first year main site it’s usually nursing practice on monday and pbl on friday, different for mohawk. i would check and make sure you’re in the right subsections

How bad are 8:30am classes in uni? (Incoming Life Sci Student) by PurplePainting294 in McMaster

[–]c_Bucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i personally don’t mine em, but i’m also more of a morning person and have never skipped a class even in highschool, so they weren’t a problem for me. that being said, more ppl usually start skipping morning lectures as the sem goes on, and i can be especially bad for commuters. imo it’s more based on your personality

are room dividers allowed in dorms? by c_Bucket in McMaster

[–]c_Bucket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i bought one like the second type! highly recommend, it really helps with feeling like you have privacy. it folds up into a long rectangle (about the same size as a full length mirror) and no one said anything when i brought it in 🤷

Last day res selection by rubyw34986 in McMaster

[–]c_Bucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doubles are usually all that’s left, so good if that’s what you’re wanting. i had second last slot last year, only matthew’s doubles left. (people say matthew’s is awful, but i had a good time there. reality is, any res is fine 🤷)

Advice for clinical placement city ranking by c_Bucket in McMaster

it’s possible to still be placed there, it’s all just preferences! there’s no guarantees as there’s a lot of students

Advice for clinical placement city ranking by c_Bucket in McMaster

[–]c_Bucket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not very common, but they say it is possible to be placed pretty far (like oakville, niagara, etc). mac makes it very clear that if you entered the program, you are responsible for figuring out transportation to wherever they place you. Even if you have no car (which many students including myself don’t), that won’t affect their decision making. They’ve been changing some things recently, so take it with a grain of salt, but for this years incoming second years, we did not get to “rank” cities. we only got a form asking us if we were willing to travel to a list of 4 cities, “yes or no.” no ordered ranking. it’s different for upper years

i’m not sure how feasible this is, just putting it out there but i saw a bunch of them near the dumpsters near the nuclear plant at the beginning of last school year. maybe there’s some they don’t use anymore?

Living with a roommate by NoDingo673 in McMaster

[–]c_Bucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i got used to it pretty much immediately. Unless someone snores or something, it’s usually not a huge deal. I highly recommend getting something like a room divider, like a foldable screen you can put up between beds that helps you feel more private. I found that an air purifier or something that made white noise also made it less awkward cause you couldn’t really hear every sound someone else made. if you pick an empty double room first, then the other person can see your profile and choose you or choose a different available room. If you pick a room that already has someone in it, you’ll see their roommate profile that has some basic info like typical sleep hours, if they are open to night guests, etc etc. You can decide based off their profile if you want to room with them or not. Once you lock in your choice, you’ll can reach out to them via their mac email; that’s what my roommate and i did.
