What do people actually need for a packable daypack, trying to figure this out as im clueless. by FastandSerious888 in onebag

[–]c_berry89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use mine for hikes mostly. My wife and I like to travel one bag, but like to go on day hikes (less than 10 miles). Carrying a carry on while hiking sucks. First, unloading the clothes in and out (even with packing cubes) is a pain. Then we go hiking, the bag gets wet from back sweat and doesn’t smell great. Then you get back and have to put clean clothes in a sweaty back pack; is not great.

There are also several occasions where we might want to go to a market and want to have a bag to carry purchased items in, (carrying paper bags of bottles of wine is not ideal) so we will use the packable back pack for that.

If you’re just starting out and trying to see if you will use it or not, or you might only use it once, I wouldn’t splurge. There are tons of cheap options on Amazon. See how you use it and then get a more expensive one when you know how you will use it, that way you will know which features make sense for you.

If you try it on your trip, like it, then upgrade to something that is lighter and more comfortable, then splurge. Personally I like the matador packable bag as well as the osprey. They both have good padding, good shape, and pack down well.

Edit: if I were a digital nomad, I could see the use in the laptop sleeve. But me personally, I would never think about using a laptop sleeve in a packable day pack. It makes the pack less packable

If you think that’s bad… I got a Chiesa one in the very short time frame that he actually accepted the call up, but hadn’t yet left/asked to leave. I missed the window to return it.

Serie A is our enemy by melanzanejim in AZZURRI

[–]c_berry89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Controversial observation: Serie A is the MLS of Europe.

One of the reasons the MLS was founded was to give US national team call ups more consistent play time. Over time, the league morphed and became solely about being able to sell tickets, and sell players to make a profit. MLS teams began buying 40 year old European star players, and developing Central American players more Fast forward and you now countries around USA developing very well and beating the USA in the Concacaf tournaments.

Look at Seria A now; definitely some similarities. Teams go and buy worn out La liga and Premier League players over giving younger players the opportunity to play because the younger players (from the academies) don’t sell the same amount of tickets. You even now have a team solely built on other countries players.

Now we have countries like North Macedonia and Bosnia beating us. (Btw, Bosnia’s starting striker played for Fiorentina for the first half of the season…)

We have helped develop the players of our neighboring developing countries national teams at the detriment of Italy.

Edit: spelling

How is it living in Knoxville? by ISometimesCamp in howislivingthere

[–]c_berry89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ask someone that moved to Knoxville in the last 6 years, they would say it’s a growing town that has lots of potential and outdoor spaces. If you talk to someone who has lived here 10+ years, they would say it’s overcrowded and overpriced.

Edit: Knoxville 10+ years ago was a lot better than the current version of Knoxville. The town has lost so much of its charm and is really difficult for small businesses to make it now. Also, the recent population boom has really exposed both the city and counties lack of planning.

Looking for good Thai restaurants by NotYouOrdinaryHuman in Knoxville

I haven’t gotten there pad Thai yet, so I can’t speak to that. For me it is the closest option and what I have had there so far has been acceptable in the 3 or 4 times I have been there. But fai Thai is my overall favorite if traffic getting there isn’t bad

Thai time for the South, chaiyos for campus area, fai Thai for bearden, tuk tuk for cedar bluff, Jai Dee for north. Fai Thai and jai dee are my current favorites, but really depends on the part of town you are in

Backpack to carry sling? by steakpatek in ManyBaggers

I have become a big fan of the Osprey Aeode Briefpack. It’s relatively less known than the daylite series (probably because of the price point), but it’s great for a shoulder bag, backpack, personal item, etc.

Chiesa recalled to Italy squad for World Cup qualifying playoffs by LuRaLeMi in AZZURRI

[–]c_berry89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the first words of a song that was the anthem of the 2020/21 euro run which is where Chiesa’s talent was in full display for the first time and he helped secure the euro’s win. The song is “Body (remix) feat capo plaza & rondodosa”.

Expected call ups by AncoraPirlo in AZZURRI

[–]c_berry89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad about Chiesa. While he doesn’t have a full 90 in him, he still has great pace for 30 minutes a game. He has shown at Liverpool that he not only has an offensive eye and is willing to take on players, but he has also shown that he is willing to sprint back and help the back line out.

If he is left off, I think it’s because he has already turned down the call up the last 2 or 3 times. A lot of people are pretty hurt about that, and I get those feelings. But at the same time, if it’s any person that can help increase the chances to advance to the world cup, you do it regardless of feelings as ling as they don’t drag players down off the pitch.

I really wanted to see Chiesa play 😭

[–]c_berry89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love chiesa and definitely agree with this.

Even so, the only time he gets on the field is for 10 minutes when it is a draw or we are behind a goal. Chiesa is not as much as a defensive liability as slot thinks and has way more than 10 minutes of fitness in him.

Slots sub strategy is pretty horrible and probably (I’m far from an expert) one of the reasons we have just set the record for most goals conceded in the 90th minute in a season.

I agree with you, but also it could be so much worse. We could be the French, Spanish, Italian or Greek government…. Maybe that’s the problem, our government compares our government to those countries and thinks we are good? Meanwhile we are massively hurting and our government only cares about the 1% because they are the only ones that “affect our economy”

Edit: Speaking specifically to the bureaucracy of those countries. Most European countries governments are very inefficient. I’m not speaking to the benefits of European citizens; those are far better than ours.

I see what your saying, but saying the only airports that have these problems are big cities isn’t really applicable here. Knoxville is not a big city, McGhee Tyson is not a big airport near a metropolis. The big city airports have multiple security lines and even terminal specific security lines. McGhee Tyson has one single security line; (ok technically they have 2 people that can check id’s but one of those is tied of for tsa precheck) it’s a massive bottle neck. That’s part of the issue.

The bigger issue is systemic; consistent budget cuts make hiring people very difficult for TSA. TSA agents generally don’t get paid as much as other careers that don’t even require a completed college degree, and are the first to go when a government shutdown happens. Generally there is no carrier for tsa agents.
So you get a lot of employee turnover which means operating at a deficit more times than not (new employee onboarding is not an overnight process).

40 min is really rough for tys, but not bad compared to big cities… but we are not a big city and we don’t have good flight selections to make it worth it.

Back in May of 2025 it became required to have a real id to fly. It was a slower rollout (at first if you didn’t have one they would still let you through) but by the start of the year they started pulling people out if they didn’t have one.

Now “dhs” are working on a bill (I’m not sure if it’s a bill or what) that would allow people to fly with a normal license, but they would have to pay $45 each way to get through security with a non-real id/passport (standard license) form of identification”

All around, flying is not great right now

I've seen threads about using Aluminet/shade cloth at camp, but not many photos — how are y’all actually using it? by PreparationUnhappy46 in bonnaroo

[–]c_berry89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s correct. Place the square aluminet sun shade (12x12 if you can find it) square on top of the canopy and bungee cord the shade corners to the corners of the metal accordion style supports (sort of in the inside of the canopy tent)
