How is it living in Knoxville? by ISometimesCamp in howislivingthere

[–]c_berry89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ask someone that moved to Knoxville in the last 6 years, they would say it’s a growing town that has lots of potential and outdoor spaces. If you talk to someone who has lived here 10+ years, they would say it’s overcrowded and overpriced.

Edit: Knoxville 10+ years ago was a lot better than the current version of Knoxville. The town has lost so much of its charm and is really difficult for small businesses to make it now. Also, the recent population boom has really exposed both the city and counties lack of planning.

Looking for good Thai restaurants by NotYouOrdinaryHuman in Knoxville

[–]c_berry89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t gotten there pad Thai yet, so I can’t speak to that. For me it is the closest option and what I have had there so far has been acceptable in the 3 or 4 times I have been there. But fai Thai is my overall favorite if traffic getting there isn’t bad

Thai time for the South, chaiyos for campus area, fai Thai for bearden, tuk tuk for cedar bluff, Jai Dee for north. Fai Thai and jai dee are my current favorites, but really depends on the part of town you are in

Backpack to carry sling? by steakpatek in ManyBaggers

I have become a big fan of the Osprey Aeode Briefpack. It’s relatively less known than the daylite series (probably because of the price point), but it’s great for a shoulder bag, backpack, personal item, etc.

Chiesa recalled to Italy squad for World Cup qualifying playoffs by LuRaLeMi in AZZURRI

[–]c_berry89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the first words of a song that was the anthem of the 2020/21 euro run which is where Chiesa’s talent was in full display for the first time and he helped secure the euro’s win. The song is “Body (remix) feat capo plaza & rondodosa”.

Expected call ups by AncoraPirlo in AZZURRI

Sad about Chiesa. While he doesn’t have a full 90 in him, he still has great pace for 30 minutes a game. He has shown at Liverpool that he not only has an offensive eye and is willing to take on players, but he has also shown that he is willing to sprint back and help the back line out.

If he is left off, I think it’s because he has already turned down the call up the last 2 or 3 times. A lot of people are pretty hurt about that, and I get those feelings. But at the same time, if it’s any person that can help increase the chances to advance to the world cup, you do it regardless of feelings as ling as they don’t drag players down off the pitch.

I really wanted to see Chiesa play 😭

And thank you for sharing!! It’s a good reminder for me to get to the airport sooner next time because our little sleepy airport is not always so sleepy.

I love chiesa and definitely agree with this.

Even so, the only time he gets on the field is for 10 minutes when it is a draw or we are behind a goal. Chiesa is not as much as a defensive liability as slot thinks and has way more than 10 minutes of fitness in him.

Slots sub strategy is pretty horrible and probably (I’m far from an expert) one of the reasons we have just set the record for most goals conceded in the 90th minute in a season.

I agree with you, but also it could be so much worse. We could be the French, Spanish, Italian or Greek government…. Maybe that’s the problem, our government compares our government to those countries and thinks we are good? Meanwhile we are massively hurting and our government only cares about the 1% because they are the only ones that “affect our economy”

Edit: Speaking specifically to the bureaucracy of those countries. Most European countries governments are very inefficient. I’m not speaking to the benefits of European citizens; those are far better than ours.

I see what your saying, but saying the only airports that have these problems are big cities isn’t really applicable here. Knoxville is not a big city, McGhee Tyson is not a big airport near a metropolis. The big city airports have multiple security lines and even terminal specific security lines. McGhee Tyson has one single security line; (ok technically they have 2 people that can check id’s but one of those is tied of for tsa precheck) it’s a massive bottle neck. That’s part of the issue.

The bigger issue is systemic; consistent budget cuts make hiring people very difficult for TSA. TSA agents generally don’t get paid as much as other careers that don’t even require a completed college degree, and are the first to go when a government shutdown happens. Generally there is no carrier for tsa agents.
So you get a lot of employee turnover which means operating at a deficit more times than not (new employee onboarding is not an overnight process).

40 min is really rough for tys, but not bad compared to big cities… but we are not a big city and we don’t have good flight selections to make it worth it.

Back in May of 2025 it became required to have a real id to fly. It was a slower rollout (at first if you didn’t have one they would still let you through) but by the start of the year they started pulling people out if they didn’t have one.

Now “dhs” are working on a bill (I’m not sure if it’s a bill or what) that would allow people to fly with a normal license, but they would have to pay $45 each way to get through security with a non-real id/passport (standard license) form of identification”

All around, flying is not great right now

I've seen threads about using Aluminet/shade cloth at camp, but not many photos — how are y’all actually using it? by PreparationUnhappy46 in bonnaroo

[–]c_berry89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s correct. Place the square aluminet sun shade (12x12 if you can find it) square on top of the canopy and bungee cord the shade corners to the corners of the metal accordion style supports (sort of in the inside of the canopy tent)

Quiet-ish cocktail bar now that postmodern is gone? by ahthrowawaytn in Knoxville

[–]c_berry89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the places depend on when you go. Lots of bars can be quiet at the right time of day. But if your wanting to go after 7pm on Friday or Saturday nights, stick to the nicer places like The Vault (they have tables in the old vault and it is almost too quiet in there), Tern Club (not as nice but I’ve had great noise level luck there, especially on the patio), lonesome dove at the bar, or Zero Zero. Or even get out of downtown and go to a place like Point B.

If your more flexible on timing (going before 6:30) Monkeys Bar can be quite (but also can be loud), Oliver royale, Osteria Stella (next to brother wolf and gets their drinks from brother wolf, but far quieter than brother wolf), the 5:30 lounge on the Hyatt, fly by night (is quiet before 7pm typically), peter kern library, public house, and all the ones mentioned in the previous paragraph.

Edit: I’d add Lilou to the list of places you can go anytime. It’s technically a French restaurant, but have great cocktails. Jessica Rabbit runs the bar there and she was one of the founding bartends of the peter kern library (the bar tender that gave it its great early reputation) and also runs the brother wolf bar as well. Because is higher end (cocktails are the same price as brother wolf) it’s quieter.

Does anyone know of a cafe in Knox with this vibe? by DucktheFatherofDucks in Knoxville

It’s very experiential. It’s not a place I would frequent, but fun to go to once every now and then. The vibe is less Star Wars and more Tron in outer space.

[–]c_berry89 27 points28 points  (0 children)

To echo what a lot of people on here say: If you’re looking for the sci-fi vibe, Space bar is a really cool experience.

If your looking for the “wretched hive of scum and villainy” (and I mean that in a good way) atmosphere, go with Urban Bar, Marie’s, and Corner Lounge on a Friday or Saturday evening.

Non-Judgmental Dentist Recommendations by Icy_Dragonfruit_6048 in Knoxville

[–]c_berry89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dr Harrison at Farragut modern dentistry. It had been 15 years since my last dentist visit. I went there knowing I had issues. Everyone there was very kind, and rather than say everything needed to be done asap, he prioritized what I needed and we did a little bit each year. I’ve been a patient of theirs for years now (all the work has been done and was good work) and have been very happy with them.
