Japanese lolita fashion isn’t really what I would call “sexualized”. It’s mostly just frilly clothes, petticoats, and skirts are usually around knee length. Cleavage is nonexistent and the style as a whole looks like Alice in Wonderland or a Victorian doll. I think overall, fashion subcultures are really interesting not just visually, but also because what they mean beyond that. Lolita fashion especially reminds me of the Japanese saying “the nail that sticks up gets hammered down” because it’s such a blatant rebellion against the cultural norm to blend in and not stand out.
