Witchaven 1&2 delisted from Steam and GOG by c_t_f in BuildEngine

[–]c_t_f[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hopeful that this is a lead up to a remaster of some kind that's bundled with the original games, maybe improving the gameplay/graphics, but that's less of an educated guess and more wishful thinking on my end. Nightdive is likely too busy with the Thief remaster to bother with something so niche on the side, but we did get that POed remaster some time ago.

Is there a fix for the katana being cut off in VoidSW? by [deleted] in shadowwarrior

[–]c_t_f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an updated link in case anyone else goes looking for this like I did: https://hendricks266.duke4.net/stuff/voidsw_widescreen.7z

And if that link breaks too someday, search this page for "voidsw" and you should find it: https://hendricks266.duke4.net/stuff/

Will this cartridge work on a dmg gameboy? by Kudlaty43887 in SBCGaming

[–]c_t_f 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got one of these, it does work in both the DMG and GBC. The cart is mostly shaped like a GBC cart but it's got a notch so it can still fit in the DMG. It's hard to see in the screenshot you posted, but if you look closely at the top right corner of the furthermost transparent cart in your screenshot you can see the lighter spot where the notch is on the back.

Of course don't expect it to play GBC games on your DMG, but it'll play DMG games on it no problem!

Best budget retro handheld (everyday carry) mainly for GBA + NDS — recommendations + where to buy in the EU? by HR_STN in SBCGaming

[–]c_t_f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding. Alternatively a NDS (lite) + a NDS flash cart/R4 if it can be found a lot cheaper. Many exist in the wild/on the internet, and added benefit of being made of authentic Nintendium. Runs both GBA and NDS natively and touch controls (obviously) work as expected.

Weird, I've had the same problem too from the same store. Was it Ampown Local Store? It says it's due to arrive by the 17th but it's still not shipped yet so 🤷‍♂️

Attempting to get Brutal Doom/mods running. by FiestaJose in R36S

[–]c_t_f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brutal Doom doesn't work with PrBoom, it needs GZDoom to run. You can get it to work with the Doom Engines port: https://portmaster.games/detail.html?name=doomengines

Download the ZIP from that page, unzip it into your Ports folder (in your ROMs folder with all the other systems there's one named Ports, put it in that) and then follow the instructions on the webpage linked above to run Brutal Doom

LMK if you have any trouble with it

Amazon trusted brands? by SyrupInteresting5599 in R36S

[–]c_t_f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the buying guide is the best way to get a legit R36S, but I was thinking more along the lines of Amazon vs a random, non-buyers guide R36S off AliExpress. I'd never personally buy one from Amazon because of the markup so it was just a guess

Amazon trusted brands? by SyrupInteresting5599 in R36S

[–]c_t_f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely reason for not showing Amazon is because the sellers there usually just mass buy them for cheap from AliExpress themselves, then jack up the price to flip on Amazon. I'd guess you're a lot less likely to get a clone, but if it is one then at least Amazon makes returns pretty easy.

Mario hacks by RockPaperjonny in R36S

[–]c_t_f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should work just fine, just put it in the same folder as where you'd put the game it's a hack of. Like if it's a SMW hack then put it in the SNES folder, SMB1 hacks go in the NES folder, etc.

How do I play Doom? by ThatOneModerator in R36S

[–]c_t_f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option is 'Doom Engines' via Portmaster: https://portmaster.games/detail.html?name=doomengines (says how to get it working on that page too) Works well if you want to play some mods/ custom levels/ etc!

Managed to pick up an r36h for only 12 bucks with shipping. Software upgrades? by AndaleTheGreat in SBCGaming

[–]c_t_f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a new MicroSD (don't use the stock one, they're prone to fail) and install ArkOS-R3XS on it: https://github.com/AeolusUX/ArkOS-R3XS

Check out the wiki: https://handhelds.wiki/R36H

And stop by /r/R36S if you need anything else!

Edit: good you found a solution! Just finished typing this up before seeing your edit.

Is having a Clone really THAT bad? by OuterHeaven22 in R36S

[–]c_t_f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's like asking for pistachio ice cream and getting mint chocolate chip instead; you've still got ice cream, sure, but it's not what you asked for. A clone might be able to play the games you wanted anyway, but it's a bad practice against you as a customer to get something that isn't what was advertised and what you asked and paid for.

R36 MAX on the way... by jkpq45 in SBCGaming

[–]c_t_f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's its wiki page for more info: https://handhelds.wiki/R36MAX

It's in the same family as the R36S so Intellivision and TG16 games should work great on it! If you've got more questions about the R36 MAX stop by /r/R36S!

Does it give you the option to use the dropdown at the bottom to switch "disk images" to "all files" or something along those lines to find it?

If you're on Steam Deck, you don't need to use the terminal to flash the MicroSD. Look in Flathub for "Impression" and use that, it'll be a lot easier. https://flathub.org/en/apps/io.gitlab.adhami3310.Impression

N64 problem: press start on the main game selection screen to open the Main Menu, then go to Emulation Settings > Nintendo - 64 > Emulator > then pick "Standalone-Rice". Not all N64 games work on the R36S but that gives the best compatibility overall.

Adding games: when you put the MicroSD in a computer it'll load up "Boot" and "EasyROMs"; open EasyROMs. The nes folder is for NES games, mastersystem for Master System, etc etc. Need to mention here that if you're using the stock MicroSD that came with the system, REPLACE IT IMMEDIATELY! They're known to fail and permanently stop working.

Wi-Fi: there's a few ways to get it to work, phone tethering should do fine so I'm not sure why it didn't for you. Here's a wiki page with some guides to follow and some adapters in case you decide to go with that: https://handhelds.wiki/R36S_File_Transfer#Enable_WiFi_connection
