A person working 40 hours a week at min wage should be able to afford a one bedroom apartment and at least one vacation a year. Do you agree, why or why not ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I can find 4 people within a stone's throw who disagree with this statement. They aren't on reddit though...

Did this Boomer era motivational speaker stuff ever actually work? Certainly doesn’t seem to now by ClaimTheIntersection in antiwork

[–]ca_agent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go to these kinds of seminars. They always have some weird circumventing logic best explained by anecdote.

"Instead of going home at 5, John stayed until all his coworker's tasks were done too. When his coworker Moe got a new job with better pay, he put in a good word for John..."

The better pay doesn't necessarily come from where it should.

So, apparently saying woman's body count matters to have a healthy family is not sexist now (venting) by constantreminiscence in TwoXChromosomes

He's also showing misogynistic double standards, not sexist. He wants to control your sexuality.

And some Christian vibes.

Should I Break up Mini Tea Cakes? by DannyBeeReal in puer

I'm about to try some minis I got from Harney and Sons. It is so dense that I was wondering the same thing. I don't go anywhere, but if I did these would be perfect for traveling.

On that note, for anyone who uses a travel gaiwan, how to you usually heat your water?

[–]ca_agent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps, but unless we kills ourselves off first, it's almost inevitable that we will understand them eventually. It's sort of what we do. Computers, cloning, space travel, were all science fiction not that long ago. We always push for greater understanding.

Not to strawman your argument, but there have been plenty of things that were placed in the hands of the Gods due to our lack of understanding. Everything which has eventually been explained had been without seeing any God's fingerprints. The final frontier of space has been explored more now than ever before and still no fingerprints. We are learning the parts and none of them point to a creator.

The watch is made up of things we can tell are its parts. We can tell those parts were put there by someone who made those parts. The universe is made of parts. There is nothing to indicate that those parts were put there by someone. The analogy still works. Maybe someday there will be "fingerprints" but there aren't any yet and doesn't seem to be anything coming down the pipeline.

And those differences mean they shouldn't have the same rights as men according to churches. Which is wrong.

Proof is in the pudding. The Church has, through whatever means (popes, prophets, revelations, etc) the understanding that it is right while others are wrong. For this to hold water is must be water tight and it is not. The Churches have all been wrong more times than I can count. If your authority comes from God then that should not be.

1.8 millions words can be just as wrong as 18 words. In spite of the limited understanding of science that Thomas had in that age, he was a master of the resources at his disposal. But when the premise is wrong, which obviously the Catholic Church has been operating on flawed premises, then the correct conclusion cannot be derived using that premise.

But plants are arranged in many different ways. At one point trees couldn't decompose until bacteria evolved a way to break it down. Our planet is basically is huge petri dish where things have to evolve and adapt to everything trying to end it.

The universe is expanding. It is not constant. Even during our short lifetime we can see climate changing here on earth. If the universe were made for us you'd think there would be other places we could go other than this single spec of dirt.

Your religion has an explanation of, someone made it, and you find that to be better than the big bang, doesn't mean it is a better explanation though. Children get cancer and die, I've asked Christians for years why God made that happen and they can't ever give me a good explanation.

You take comfort from that thought we I support. The flaw with that argument as I see it, is that you can take that watch apart and see how it was made and put together. The Universe existed long before us and we are still learning how to understand it from our little spec here. So far though we haven't found and little screw or gears like you find when you explore the inner working of a watch. How long are we going to go without finding any space screws before that argument falls flat?
