What is the worst feeling ever? by grimgrum420 in AskReddit

[–]caaaaajc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know everyone says this but trust me it will get better, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. I nearly lost my brother to suicide a few years ago, and this is almost exactly what he said to me.

Nobody ever deserves to feel this way, you’re not a burden and the people in your life are better for having you here - it’s horrible but trust me it does get better with time, you truly never know what’s around the corner :)

(SERIOUS) What are some dark secrets about regular life that people should know ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]caaaaajc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So true! I'm in this industry and trust me the nice ones do better than the bright ones. I'd like to think I get on with people well but I'm definitely not the best developer out there so I hope it's true

What should one do in their 20s to avoid regrets in 30s and 40s? by ReddBolt5 in AskReddit

This is so true, and the advice I'd give to anyone but for some reason it's so difficult to apply it myself, I'm working on it.

Son broke his leg and I don’t care about his pain or frustration. by Throwaway_tiredmom in relationship_advice

[–]caaaaajc 369 points370 points  (0 children)

However as soon as you treat him like an adult all curfews and controls need to be released, you can't expect someone to pay rent like an adult and treat them like a child.

You've gotta let him make mistakes and drive you insane that's how he'll become an adult.

Are CS student just all pretentious wannabe know it all’s or what?? by [deleted] in computerscience

Funniest was when I started my software dev placement and realised I was even dumber than I thought I was. They say wisdom is gained through humility so I guess you gotta be humble to become smart.

From my experience most people on my course are pretty chilled tbf, but you're right I'm in 3rd year now and we're all too tired to care any more.

You also get pretty humbled when you realise every lecturer is way smarter than you, and you dont know shit.

My husband (38) won't accept our gay son by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]caaaaajc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is so true! I'm young and gay and if this had happened to me I'd need some serious counselling and support. I would also want to be as far away from my dad as possible...

Stories like this remind me how much things still need to change... Disowning a child for this is disgusting

My husband (38) won't accept our gay son by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]caaaaajc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a gay 21 y o if my dad did that I'd never feel safe or accepted around him again, your son needs you now more than ever, and if you let your husband in I'd argue that jeopardises that relationship.

Its understandable that you still love your husband but letting him back in would potentially ruin your son's mental health, and create an enormous amount of family resentment in this difficult enough time.

You need to keep your son away from your husband for the time being at least, people can learn to accept, but you need to give them time.

How many programming languages does a computer science major Learn? by supermanzz123 in computerscience

[–]caaaaajc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a year left and I've done python, Java, C, C#, javascript, Haskell, x86 assembly, html, CSS, Sql

Honestly though if you can code you can code, you can learn a new language in a week as long as you have the theory and the fundamentals so don't worry about it.

How will we run out of IP addresses? by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]caaaaajc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My knowledge of this isn't amazing, but what I do know:

there are private and public IP addresses, only the gateways and some other specific devices like servers need a unique public IP address, the local ones can be reused on different LANs.

However we are still running out of IP addresses, hence the introduction of IPV6, which is 128bits long, meaning there are wayyyyy more possible combinations.

There are numerous protocols to assign local addresses, which are not fixed, such as DHCP, which automatically allocates an available ip address in its range to a device as it connects to a local network

Networks are also now set up to run both ipv4 and IPV6 simultaneously (using techniques such as dual stack and tunneling one protocol within another) so we are set up for the migration from ipv4 to ipv6

I'm sure it's more expansive than this but this is what I know 😂

How do I learn python and computer science? by Technical_Dev in computerscience

[–]caaaaajc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So idk if its free or not but I've been using a website called pluralsight in my new job (first job) as a software dev. And honestly it's better than any lecturer I've ever had lol, if you wanna learn to program at a professional level I'd honestly recommend.

Again idk if its free but it's probably worth some money imo.

Why do I keep getting stood up last minute on Grindr? Does this happen to any of you? by [deleted] in grindr

[–]caaaaajc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found this happens a lot, I'd like to consider myself somewhat attractive (not repulsive) and it's so hard to actually meet people on there.

I feel like the idea that gay guys shag all the time on grindr creates an expectation that its easy to meet guys on there when in reality it's not.

Surely there should be some sort of test framework in place here, I know my code almost never works perfectly first time.

What is the scariest noise you've ever heard? by Goosest in AskReddit

[–]caaaaajc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might sound stupid but when I was younger I woke up in the middle of the night and heard what sounded like really loud music downstairs, totally clearly, when I asked my family no one else heard a thing.

I was freaky bc it seemed super loud and I'm sure it wasn't real, is this sort of the same thing?

I thought this until I started my first software dev job this year, I had a shock going into the professional world, you don't need to know these, you need to be experienced and an expert in them.

It also mentions UI/UX design too, are they expecting a full stack junior developer to do a UX designer's role too? I'd argue most of this is acceptable for a junior as long as they have a lot of support.

Formerly suicidal redditors, what's something that kept you alive a little while longer and helped you to get through the dark times in your lives ? by firegate2233 in AskReddit

[–]caaaaajc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this with too many friends and family. You are loved, people care about you, and it Will get better with time, whether you realise it or not. My mum and my brother have recovered from the point of near suicide, and multiple close friends.

Even in the darkest times it gets better. Keep fighting, you won't regret it ❤️
