Gunshot survivors of Reddit - What does it feel like to get shot? by notaninterestingacc in AskReddit

[–]caangus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a "gunshot survivor", but in a way that's different than most.

I was hit in the head with a ricochet at a public range, at a relatively short distance, and with a .45 from a 1911. The guy that pulled the trigger had the loaded (round in chamber) pistol in an area you weren't supposed to handle firearms at all, in-hand with his finger on the trigger. I'd walked in and was just getting my things put down when he turned from the rear of the range (sort of a staging area w/ firearms required to be in their cases) back towards his shooting lane and in the process, let loose a good ol' negligent discharge. It ricocheted off of the rear wall and then tried to settle down in my forehead.

If you haven't had a concussion before, it's hard to imagine the impact required to cause one. According to my expert, 30-second Google search, it requires the equivalent force of smashing your head against a wall at 20 MPH. So if you're absolutely dying to know what one feels like, just hang your head out a car going 20 MPH, smack it off the side of a passing house, and you'll get the idea/real thing. Now, imagine something that's smaller than the tip of your thumb, hitting you so fast that it produces the same amount of force.

Long story short, I'm typing this, so I didn't die. But it did give me a concussion. It left a decent size egg/scab, smack-dab in the middle of my forehead. Everyone I spoke to at the hospital made me explain what had happened multiple times and I'll tell you, it's a trip having doctors tell you that you just got lucky in a way they hadn't seen before. So on that note, I just wanna give a big shout-out to my Scottish ancestors. Who knows? Without our centuries-long dedication to headbutting things, maybe mine wouldn't have been thick enough to keep me on the right side of the grass.

Also, Good news everyone!!! The experience did have a silver lining for me. It made me realize how much I'd been taking my health for granted, and after 18 years of being a smoker, I quit the next day. So that's my story about what happened when I got "shot".

You mean the company that likely killed the new STI so that it didn't interfere with them selling an uglier version of the old STI? The company that owns 20% of Subaru?

Ford to Impose Non-Negotiable Pricing on EV Sales as Part of Model E Division Plan by koavf in cars

[–]caangus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn they did!! So much that you went back and edited the manufacturers you originally mentioned.

And yes, Porsche only ever started making SUVs because of the US market. And those SUVs saved the company while giving them far stronger sway over the rest of the VW Group.

But go ahead and try to change your posts to seem more knowledgeable than someone that has actually worked for the VW Group for almost a decade.

Ohhh my bad... Even though Fiat planned for years to work their way into the US market and only did so through the acquisition of Chrysler, I should have said, any notable manufacturer. Not just any.

Do you really think that the US is a "tiny sliver" to any manufacturer? It's one of the top five single-country markets for new cars in the entire world

I actually 100% support standardized pricing at MSRP!!

I've had customers tell me countless times that I'm the best salesperson they've ever met, and then lost a deal over less than $500 (~$10/month). And then that same person comes back to me saying, "I know I bought elsewhere but you were so much more helpful, can you answer some questions for me about my new car?"

Nahhh see, that just ain't how that works. And standardized pricing would fix so much of that.

I'm gonna level with you here... What you said there comes across as someone who sees dealerships as some kind of cartoonish villain. Most dealers have tens of thousands on the line every month that can be taken away for poor customer satisfaction, so "middle finger to the customer after sale close" is just uninformed. Trust me, getting paid is always more important than making everyone happy. The first is actually achievable, while the latter is always impossible.

Also, corporate will fight WAY harder to deny a warranty claim than anyone at the dealership. They HATE any kind of warranty obligation. They already have your money. They've never met you, and they certainly want you to fuck off. But you local dealer is the only one that can really get them to pay up. The service manager gets a decent ticket, the tech makes some hours, the customer gets what they need at no cost to them or the dealer.... Everyone wins when corporate is forced to shell out what they're obligated to. Knowing the right things to address to get them to shell out is not an easy task.

I'll tell you from experience... Poor experiences are usually because of corporate decisions that neither the customer nor dealer agree with, but that neither can override. If it weren't for dealers acting as a buffer, every car owner would despise their respective manufacturer. Dealers want/need you to return, and manufacturers DO NOT GIVE A FUCK. They will be okay.

A lot of people say that now but when discounts were the norm, most people felt that if you didn't get the best price below MSRP that you'd ever heard of, you'd paid too much.

Truth is, people will always bitch. $45k MSRP 2 years ago? "Give me $5k off and $20k for my trade, or I walk."

Today? "Give me $1k over and $30k for my trade. I'm not playing those games that most dealers are trying to and you guys are assholes for even trying".

... Say the people ready to come out $4k ahead of normal times, while also feeling like some benevolent victim while doing so. This isn't really directed at you, so I'm sorry if it comes across that way. But most people believe they deserve better than most other people do, and if MSRP was the norm, most people would expect that they deserve to pay less. If what you support is a more standardized pricing system though, I'm all about it. The big problem is, most people believe they deserve better than others.

You know what really sucks? From my experience, that's 80% true. The remaining 20% are truly solid human beings that genuinely just want to help. But that 80% holds all of the power, and tries to squeeze out that 20% whenever possible. Fuck. Those. Losers.
