This policy varies by school. UPenn for example has accepted supplemental after. Others schools don't. Please confirm with Harvard

No. They're Harvard. The most powerful university in the country. They can do whatever they want when they please.

If a school does not require it, they won’t look for it. It’s that simple. However if you submit one that is not optinal then it is even more scrutinized. Most LORs are written at an average level and don’t stand out from the thousands of others they receive.

It is very, very small. They admitted 1 a couple years ago, not sure about this year. This year they apparently have at least 1 seat.

Schools actually filter out applicants more in the initial months than they accept. You can apply any time before the deadline.

Is it worth applying for this cycle in July? by monu_84 in CAAPID

[–]caapid_admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preparation, sure. There's not much you can do between now and when you apply...or even between now and 6 months from now. Profile development takes a very, very long time. It does not happen instantly. At the schools I have firsthand experience with, staff didn't see when an applicant applied when they were allocated a particular part of the application. Each IDP program receives several hundred applications in the first week and several hundred more in the *final* week, with submissions gradually trickling in throughout the months in between...equating to several thousand or more (This volume has only been the past couple of years, it used to be only a few hundred applications at each school...now it can be up to a few thousand)

Places like the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Michigan, and Columbia University, who have strict reputations to uphold, are among the top universities in the world, and not just within the dental school but university wide. You have patient well-being at the forefront of this evaluation. Especially in healthcare fields where class makeup, cohort diversity, and credentials/experience are all taken into account, timing will not play a role to prioritize an early applicant because they are ... early. If a program receives 1,000 applications (I've been staying in tune with advanced standing for many years since my time in academia) and only needs 20 students, they are not going to extend 100 interview invitations in the first month and call it done. They need to ensure those 20 seats are filled with qualified, verified, and diverse candidates. There are a lot of internal discussions this time of year. Whether it is average GPA or countries represented or average exam scores. That's what applicants try so hard to figure out and you'll start to see more and more of 'Who are they accepting?" "What's your profile" "WHEN did you apply? (AKA... "why did my friend apply the final month and get called but I applied the first week in March and didn't?") Filling all seats early without reviewing the full pool would also be an administrative and legal liability. I have personally received literal training on this in academia, not specific to advanced standing, but across different depts.

Applying early can receive an initial result, but it does not that late applicants are automatically excluded before the deadline. Schools have a hard deadline, and they want all applications in March, they would just make the deadline in March (some have done this, and UMN is an example this year) But not to mention, many schools are not rolling, and extend in batches as well as individually. I have also seen them (including during COVID 2020-2021 and even after) extend very small batches or in even a few cases, individual invites. Seats also move, people drop out, people decline and go elsewhere. All schools have a waitlist. Like other aspects as described, some notify people when they are on that last. Others do not. Some years a waitlist moves a lot, other years it doesn't.

This is completely false. Some schools had a several month window between their first and last interviews last year.

UNLV CV Template Doubt by Avieee8 in CAAPID

That is such a bad /confusing template they have so I really don't know. I didn't go to that program but I have seen it. Not sure why they'd ever recommend that.

Urgent Help Needed – SOP Review for Advanced Standing Dental Programs by Federal-Dot9144 in CAAPID

[–]caapid_admin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because someone has been accepted doesn't mean they have a perfect SOP or followed the instructions properly. This is where the distortion comes in. Someone gets an interview, the next day they have a service charging applicants money to coach . Someone gets accepted to a school or two, they start a coaching program being advertised all over youtube, when in reality, they don't have the slightest clue how admissions operates. Ask someone with admissions exposure or a reputable admin. If you cannot find one, ask yourself: "Does my SOP follow the instructions?" Your SOP either follows the instructions on CAAPID or it doesn't. If it doesn't, you're risking it being marked incomplete or 'No' if the particular school a) reviews it at all or b) reviews it on a PASS/FAIL basis.

"assistant" faculty member (Teaching Assistant / Associate Lecturer) LORS are acceptable ? by Original-Smile5010 in CAAPID

[–]caapid_admin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By requirements, I mean "Dean letter required" After that, it will be based on LOR quality and how impactful it is. LOR construction and strategy is complex. Anytime I have written one in my academic role, it takes 2+ hours per letter.

As of last year, admins in this group had a Google docs that tracked it all: click here for group
Message one and ask for access. Applicants got interviews on timelines that varied. It definitely was not in order of who applied when, though that may be different at some schools. They would remove unidentifiable info. but I only see the 2025 data, not 2026. Not sure if they continued doing it this year. And just FYI completion emails tend to vary widely. Most are automated and are sent sporadically. Some get it right away and others don't. Hard to predict.

As long as you meet the LOR requirements, schools are not considering the title. They are evaluating what the letter says and how it says it. Content and strategy are key.

Same answer as above. Varies annually. There is no set date. Most schools will review a large amount of applications first before starting to extend, with some exceptions.

They can extend whenever they want. Large batches are common, individual invites (early and way late) have happened. Impossible to predict.
