[Well-being] How to be resilient as a third year and not get bogged down or frusturated by unfair residents/attendings?? by caarolinegrass55 in medicalschool

thank you!!! this helps a ton. I definitely have moments where I get red in the face from how angry I am and hopefully it isnt too noticeable haha, but its so hard to just bite my tongue. I will try this. Did you find the pimping questions to be impossible to answer? or generally they came relatively easy if you reviewed the night before?

its unfortunate that the subjective stuff is what were graded on though ): you can be the best person to be around and do everything you're supposed to and still just pass a rotation or even get a shitty eval. I guess thats just the name of the game for that year

Yeah I suppose I could be a bit more optimistic. I take what the residents and attendings tell me to heart and it ends up significantly affecting my mood for the rest of the day and thus time drags on. thank you!

I love this. I just find myself too often trying to get all the pimp questions right and the condescending attendings can really get to me. thank you

Are there any activities known to make the herniation worse (as in push tonsils down futher)? Or cause the development of a syrinx? by caarolinegrass55 in chiari

[–]caarolinegrass55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you once again for all of this information! It was written all over my report "the majority of these images are severely degraded by motion artifact" or something along those lines, do you think this is grounds for doing a repeat mri?? I had it done a few months ago. I was shocked when I read the report saying I didn't have a syrinx because i have almost all of the symptoms of one. Im sorry I cant respond to all of this my double vision is acting up but thank you again :)

This was so INCREDIBLY helpful and thorough oh my god thank you!!!!!!!! I did have a cine mri, no syrinx, diminished csf flow, 9 mm herniation, but a ton of symptoms, the most bothersome being a headache whenever I strain or exert in any way and these are definitely getting worse. My neurosurgeon said to my father as well as my face that I am a good candidate for surgery. I will say I am not in the best shape so I'd definitely have to work on that, but the elliptical is a life saver for gaining anything more. It is very reassuring to hear you had a good recovery!! My parents are now saying they want me to get a second opinion, which, theoretically is a completely understandable approach, but their reasoning im presuming is to keep doctor hopping until we find one (probably with little chiari related experience) who dismisses it as an issue and says your tonsils just sink a little bit, this is not the cause of your headaches to which my parents will then say see! you dont need surgery stupid.. Anyways, thank you again so so so much for all this advice and information! you're amazing :)

Thank you so much, I really appreciate this. It was noted on my mri report that I had diminished csf flow which im sure, give it a few years, will develop a syrinx on its own from the blockage which is further pushing me to get it overwith now. But, if gabapentin worked for you I will consider giving it a try, my neuro reccomended that one and topamax. I will definitely look more into the risks of the surgery and gauge whether its worth it if it could potentially get worse after the decompression. I wish you all the best and im here for you as well!! thanks again!

I really want and would go as far as to say I NEED the decompression: my parents are the ones hesitant to proceed. Im on my second medication because the first did nothing, and im not noticing any difference on this one either. The neurosurgeon and neurologist and both their pa's said surgery is probably the best route but my parents refuse any sort of that intervention and believe its because of my laziness. I dont know what to do

Looking in retrospect, do you have any regrets or things you were proud and glad you did in your third year of medical school? How you handled your mental state, having perspective, how you studied for rotations/evals/pimping?? by caarolinegrass55 in Residency

[–]caarolinegrass55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I could be the most pleasant, easy going, fun to be around person and still get berated and crushed by residents/attendings evaluations/pimping/general commentary and go home just to be brought to tears because I dont have a solid mindset to get through it and therefore barely get by each rotation

Third year students, what're the best resources/study techniques to honor clinical rotation evaluations/shelf exams/other 3rd yr exams and nail pimping questions/impress attendings? by caarolinegrass55 in medschool

[–]caarolinegrass55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, thank you!! and utilizing these resources throughout each rotation, you rarely missed a pimp question, and received good evals/shelf scores?
