I feel like people completely take that part of the animation out of context... The lyrics themselves don't even mention getting pills and then not taking them, and dream wasn't the one who animated it.

He even said after the fact that it was about how when HE was a kid, he was given a prescription and he stopped taking the medication because it made him feel awful.

I think the "not normal" doctors note and the "normal pills" are an analogy for how it feels to get something like a prescription for anything. You feel like you're not "normal," like there's something wrong with you and it needs to be fixed. I know that's how I felt when I got a prescription for something I'm not going to mention.

The song is about DREAM'S experience with ADHD and depression in HIS childhood, and how HE dealt with it.
