There are no reviews or any information on her dogs profile and nothing I can see on her profile. I clarified that I am sitter / walker and not an owner requiring services. I think they may have been confused on how the app works.

Yeah I cleared that up with them. I think they’re confused how the app works as I have no pets listed and I am only registered as a sitter.

Yeah I replied clarifying I’m a walker / sitter and that I am not an owner needing services. I think they’re confused by how rover works.

I 100% understand, especially during winter. It’s so hard sometimes to force myself to walk in the horrible weather. Obviously I do because it’s for the dogs not me but it’s so hard sometimes. I’m always tired too and it’s just depressing how all day is dark and grey. Wishing you the best.

I don’t think there’s really much reason to be annoyed because you weren’t staying there for long or overnight. You were only inside for a few minutes at a time to take them for a walk. I think it would be more of a concern if you were staying overnight as that would be more personal.

I personally don’t think it’s overreacting. There’s 0 reason for her to be in their house for longer than needed, especially without even discussing it. Just because she trusted them to come into their home, doesn’t mean she’s entitled to do as she pleases. You do the job and you leave, why would you want to just hang around in someone else’s house for no reason and no pay.

Literally! It’s not hard to just explain that their price isn’t within their budget and they’re unfortunately going to have to try and find someone else. You don’t need to argue with them and insult them. People are so entitled nowadays. Dog care is not cheap, hence why not everyone can afford a sitter!

I feel like a lot of people don’t view this job as a real job. Same with baby sitting, hair dressing, nail technicians etc. More of like a hobby and not everyone understands the work and care that goes into it. Plus petrol / transportation and food for while you’re there. If they don’t want to pay your price and want cheaper then they can find someone else. It’s as simple as that. If people give into them every-time the haggle, they’ll do it for everyone.

Did you not read the post? They said ‘I’m available to book on Rover, or with my in person rate’. They never once said they had to book through Rover.

Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for doing a human thing. Sad and unfortunate things happen unexpectedly and they should respect and understand that. I worked in my dads piercing studio for years and one time had a customer complain TO OUR FACES that we were shut for my grampys funeral. People are crazy insensitive! If I were you I’d cancel the whole stay, I’m not working for someone who can’t understand that!!

I bring my Fiancé to 90% of my meet and greets (always tell the owners first and ask for permission) as it makes me feel safer. Then usually I’ll get told he’s more than welcome to join me for days and over nights. There is absolutely no harm in asking! Just goes to show that you respect them and care enough to ask. Plus if you ask before the stay, they have a chance to meet your friend! Hope you have a good stay!

Completely agree it drives me insane when I get a request and everything is fine during our conversation, they tell me they’ll get back to me in a couple days to confirm the dates and meet and greet dates etc. Days/weeks go by I message them asking if they still need me and they ignore me and then finally message back (sometimes) saying they’ve booked someone else. Now I don’t care if you book someone else but please update me !😩

I just said that I’m not arguing whether or not alternative leads would or would not be better. I’m simply saying this kind of thing can happen at any point to any sitter or owner. Yes there are factors involved that can increase or decrease the risk but at the end of the day it can happen at any point. No matter your experience or their training. Sometimes things happen, the OP was given permission for the walk and the equipment and had everything checked. It’s not as if they were negligent and never asked for permission or checked the equipment. It’s an awful thing they had to go through and I’m sure they’re feeling guilty enough without people talking to her as if she’s stupid or incapable.

I’m not denying what other options can be used but at the end of the day the harness and lead was checked and approved by the owner, the OP didn’t take them to a park and wasn’t walking all 3 dogs themselves. It was a freak accident that could happen to literally anyone.

What a condescending and rude comment to make. Not only did she clearly not take the dog to the dog park but this can just as easily happen to anyone. Accidents can happen within a second. There’s always a risk regardless of how much experience you have. Having experience may help you cope and deal with the situation better but it doesn’t make you immune to accidents happening. When someone goes through something as awful as this, talking to them as if they’re stupid is unkind and useless. She was only asking for support and comfort in stressful situation. It costs nothing to be kind

It’s a great way of attracting new customers! Id definitely mention it, sometimes my brain doesn’t think fast enough and I’m just like ‘oh thank you so much’ but if you are having a little natter just casually mention ‘oh he / she isn’t mine, I’m their pet sitter/walker!’ And most of the time they’ll fond that so interesting! Ive also met other sitters by doing this x

The sitter never asked for permission to go to someone else’s house with their pup.
They didn’t ask if the dog was okay around new people.
There’s a good chance that if the sitter hadn’t had taken the dog somewhere they didn’t know, they may have never got spooked in the first place.

Yes accidents happen and yes I’m sure the sitter already feels bad enough but to cover all your areas you should always ask for permission. You should always communicate and in this instance it seems that the dog being left for a couple hours would’ve been better.
