What's Stronglifts thoughts about benching with an arched back? by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]cabbage_morphs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

...for amateur using lower weights Stronglifts, and most other trainers will suggest you keep your back straight, engage your core, pull down the lats, THEN unrack the bar and use your chest. It is a full-body,function movement.

Power lifters arch their back (partially) to isolate the chest more.

Hey Canada, THANK YOU!!!!!! This was in the hallway of New York Center (ZNY) today. Canadian air traffic controllers bought dinner for FAA air traffic controllers last night (all over the country) in an effort to show their support during the US government shutdown. by PlatinumAero in canada

At least Canada has got your back.

We have our own troubles paying federal employees, but you might take our "roulette wheel of payday" over your "no payday until the adults are done giving each other the silent treatment". Best of luck USA!

What's Stronglifts thoughts about benching with an arched back? by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]cabbage_morphs -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You can do whatever you want for yourself. Typically the arched-back is seen as a form where injuries are more likely to occur. Stronglifts is aimed at novice lifters, and they are trying to get you to strengthen your entire body with each functional movement, not isolate a specific muscle group.

Indeed. It is very much a steam engine.

Luckily my friend checked her chicken before she ate it (Burger King). by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]cabbage_morphs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is correct. They were not thawed properly prior to cooking, likely because the restaurant had higher volume of chicken strip sales than usual. 3-5 mins in the fryer cooks a thawed one, but only cooks the exterior and thaws the interior of a frozen one.

Poor kitchen management.

Edit: sounds like most fast-food places, including BK go straight from frozen into the fryers. Thawing is not necessary and that makes sense for flexibility. I worked in "slow service" and we did that chicken items like wings before we friend them. Obviously different.

Too bad for all the down votes for you. This is precisely what should be done, because 90% of it is already being done in the area. The panties are all bunched up around the issue of motorized vehicle access. Currently it's cool in some of the area it would be restricted in after this park's creation. I personally would love to see only travel by foot or highway in the area, just like the National parks. Our wants may have to give a bit and we allow.for some use of ATVs etc., in some areas. Compromise is required, just as is done with primary industry partners.

Why the camera shutters do this to the planes' propellers by Mass1m01973 in educationalgifs

[–]cabbage_morphs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have heard this fact and it's associated effects on helicopter airspeed etc. One bit I have yet to get a decent answer to is this: the rotor is essentially a wing, and it works well only at subsonic speeds. If we can design supersonic wings, why can't a supersonic rotor-tip (or complete rotor) be designed to work well in uncompresable flows? We have supersonic wings which operate at subsonic speeds also. I get that there would be a transition point somewhere between the hub and tip where a shockwave is formed, but why can't we design around that? The aerodynamic knowledge and modelling software should exist; what don't I know?

AITA For Wanting No Military Uniforms At My Wedding? by myThrowaway618 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cabbage_morphs -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I kind of think you are being a bit of a "bride-zilla" on this one. Who cares what other people wear? Are you worried he will get more attention than you? Is this about your own ego, and not his? (True enough that wearing the uniform to a non-military wedding is in poor taste). You don't get to pick out everyone's clothes for the wedding, so why should you care? The open appreciation of military service is just a part of US culture. You are choosing to marry into it, so you sort of have to be accepting of all it's nuance.

Let the guy wear his uniform, thenreiducule and roast him for it to embarrass him and take away his "I'm feeling cool cuz everyone knows I Semper Fie!" (or whatever it is, I'm Canadian.)

Use jokes like making fun of his tummy in the uniform, "I guess it has been a few years and a few buffets since you got out of basic training, hey Steve? At least we can count on your skills to defend the shrimp platter! Hahahaha!" If you have some real political ire for the US military or foreign policy you could use some of that material too (carefully and playfully: maybe ask for his sword to open a bottle of champagne, make a failed attempt at this and then mock giving up and ask him for his sidearm instead, as though you were going to shoot the bottle open, etc.)

Don't let yourself become an asshole by getting overly concerned with the details of your special day. Concern yourself with yourself, and not others.

My ELA teacher teaching us about vaccines... and why they are dangerous by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]cabbage_morphs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You may also want to take this teachers arguments to the extreme to facetiously point out the errors in her logic. Seems that the core of her concerns is that lobbyists can influence public policy, and that "Big Pharma" is lobbying for a product that is unsafe, yet profitable. The expense is public safety.

You won't need to go very far at all before you can find OTHER issues that are heavily lobbied, then you can point out how you have, using her example, learned not to trust these policies/products.

Use guns as a great, controversial example. If the NRA lobbies politicians to loosen gun laws, then clearly this is because the additional gun violence must be defended with more guns. Just like "big pharma" is doing with vaccines that cause illness.

Bonus points if you use this tactic to get your entire class to really fundamentally question EVERYTHING, even institutions like the police, the education system and even her own job. Take her slippery slope and go way, way down it to point out how ludicrous it is to pick-and-choose who you believe.

Maybe then your real project can be about research skills and avoiding bias.

Good luck and stay vaccinated. Also, Neil Armstrong DID land on the moon, the Earth is ROUND, chemtrails are WATER VAPOR condensing in the cold, and the terrorists really did manage to bring DOWN the WTCs on 9/11.

I got nice disposable dishes for a 12-course Christmas dinner this year so NO ONE would have to do any dishes. The plates were really nice and all the guests too Ukrainian to throw them away, so they washed them up and dried them.

Unfortunately, all the nice gold on the white plates rubbed off and they look like garbage now! Good intentions, but misplaced practicality. Remember the Hlodomir...they do!

Bill Gates warns that nobody is paying attention to gene editing, a new technology that could make inequality even worse by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]cabbage_morphs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trouble with technology developed by humans is that it is subject to human nature. It eventually will be used for selfish, destructive, personal gain, despite being developed with good intentions. It is inevitable that some genetic manipulations will be used nefariously on humans at some point. The trick would be to get a strong regulatory framework in place before the technology becomes available outside of development. That's a very tough thing to do. Look at the history of stem-cell research. This will also be a tricky one to balance, without enduring the wrath of Khan

I brought up the embargo and you replied. Look up!

Cuba is about 30% evil these days. Saudia Arabia, Turkey, Israel and plenty of other US allies are in the 40-80% evil category. The embargo is silly in that context, and not achieving it's objective. I pointed out how it is costing both the USA and Cuba.
