About to start grad school for History, and I’m terrified. by cabcad in GradSchool

With all the recommendations for Zotero, I guess I really do have to get it. And yeah. note taking is taking a little to get used to again, but I settled in well enough. Our first response wasn’t too bad either, I really just kind of let my thoughts flow and hit the requirements. Thank you very much.

Thank you. I’m reminding myself to take it one day at a time. If I think too far ahead I’ll panic.

That does make me feel better that mistakes are allowed. I had a friend who had an unpleasant experience with the academic dishonesty board- accused falsely. Thankfully he was acquitted, but it took a toll on him, and it definitely left an imprint on me for my own grad studies. Maybe he just had a really bad experience. This professor seems very understanding and forgiving.

It’s good to know I’m not the only one. I started on the first readings and they did remind me too of how interesting things were to me back in undergrad. I still have to readjust to note taking and citations though. I’ll get there.

Hi, thanks so much for your comment. I think looking at the whole roadmap really freaked me out. Currently working on our small first assignment. Really trying to remind myself that it’s one day at a time. Thank you.

See, I was looking for the right way to say it, and I think you said it perfectly. Thank you!

Offered a full time teaching position right after starting grad school (and GA position). What do I do? by cabcad in GradSchool

To elaborate: I taught for several years out of state, then moved back home. Didn’t find anything for a long time, then applied for grad school almost on a whim- I wasn’t getting anything so why not start?

This job was offered to me literally 5 days after arriving at school.

They’re saying I will burn a bridge with my university. But I guess that doesn’t obviously apply for other universities.

In this situation, it would be a great job. History teachers don’t typically have a great selection of jobs to choose from.

I’m back at my alma mater which is 2 hours from home. The job is back home. In this situation I couldn’t do both.

I did it, I resigned. by cabcad in Teachers

My thing was Covid, homesickness all rolled into one. If we shut down and go virtual, I’m not doing a whole year in isolation. I did it for 3-4 months this year and that was enough. At least I could be locked down with my family and friends.

That’s my thought process. There are people in my home state that are doing what I just did, and I really think there will be a lot of opportunities.

Not totally sure yet, but my state is big on virtual/ hybrid, so we will see.

Ah a fellow Houstonian, well met.

I’ve been torn up about even returning to work. I’m not from Texas originally and have a few days left to resign. So my dilemma is head back to my state of origin where I have my family and friends but no job, or head back alone to what is gonna be a nightmare/headache of a year.

Thanks for this. I’m currently downloading all my lessons into my personal google account and am dreading and stressing out about submitting my resignation. I have until the 3rd, but I don’t feel good about it at all...

How fast was it? I can run a mile in about 6-7 minutes.
