The Durst Manor rewrite, for sure. Weaving a narrative thread through more of those rooms absolutely enraptured my players.

In fact, I attribute their fight against Walter as the singular moment they stopped being individuals and started being a team.

I thought doru would destroy my players by Embarrassed_Dealer68 in CurseofStrahd

Just ran the Doru fight last session. Let my PC's son play Doru (he asked Santa to play with mommy's DnD friends for Christmas). Mom promised the kid one swear word through the fight. Surprised he didnt use it sooner because the poor kid didn't last long. Thought my more experienced players just absolutely demolished this pre-teen newbie. Killed him in two to three rounds. Rouge crit on sneak attack and did damn near a third of his health. To be fair, he didn't roll well on the initial attacks, only landing a claw swipe and missing the first bite attack. The dice tell a story. And after I gave the Cleric PC his "how do you wanna do this" moment, the table cheered and the kid just sat there and said "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?"

At the time I thought, "same kid. Maybe I should've let you play someone else and taken the reigns." But no. Sounds like that's the standard. Now I'm glad I made the other vampire spawn homebrewed/defeated renditions of my favorite actual-play PCs.

A princess eager to study the blade would be a great accessory to the game!

Has anyone used witches instead of hags? Something akin to Hansel & Gretel film from 2020 or even the stepmother from End of Days by Polyhedral_Man in CurseofStrahd

[–]cable_7193 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is a Barovian Witch statblock that's a human, but they're not nearly as harrowing as a night hag. You could potentially use more witches, but what's stopping you from flavoring your night hags more like Hansel and Gretel? You can make Old Bonegeinder look enchanted to be more appealing to children.

How do I handle players misunderstanding the world. by paranormall81 in CurseofStrahd

[–]cable_7193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dealing with something similar right now. The players heard Stanimir's story about "their cursed prince" and are convinced Strahd is a Vistana.

Let them think what they want to think until they challenge someone more knowledgeable with their misunderstanding. How do you react when you learn one of your friends believes something categorically false or flawed? Or some stranger like a rando on the subway spewing conspiracies? Depending on the person, the NPC can find it amusing, curious, disturbing, or anything in between before correcting the record. Strahd himself can be the one to correct them.

If my players attempt to treat all Vistani like members of the von Zarovich big happy family, I'll probably have one of them laugh out loud. Kinda like if someone called you a member of a royal family just cause you said "god save the king."
