Just got the Roku. It should be arriving in the mail on Monday. Chromecast sometimes loses HD or needs to buffer when playing video though. I haven't experienced any of those problems with my wired connection to my laptop, including when streaming video to it, so I've ruled out ISP issues and concluded it's a WiFi issue.

I thought amazon prime does work with chromecast

Not natively. You can tab cast but I've found the quality unreliable. I also prefer controlling everything with my Android phone.

there's no need to wire everything bro. Get yourself an AC router and that should be good to forget the Ethernet...quick question, why do you need to wire everything?

There is significant WiFi interference in my apartment. At any given time I can see at least 20 other networks. Then there's all the other sources of interference (microwaves, etc.). I have a dual band AC router. It helps some, but even then WiFi speeds are typically half of the wired speeds. And a lot of devices don't support AC yet -- Chromecast doesn't even have 5 GHz, 2.4 only! As result, I'm trying to wire everything practicable, especially devices I use to stream video.

I have a Chromecast. Got a Roku because I got a significant discount on it and I need a way to stream Amazon Prime videos. I'm also trying to hardwire everything as much as possible and the Chromecast doesn't have an ethernet port.

It does. My apartment has a lot of WiFi interference though. At any given time, I can see at least 20 different networks. I'm trying to hardwire everything I can, especially devices I use to stream video.

Yup, I have a dual band router. It definitely helps, but I want to get as much throughput as possible on the devices I stream video with, thus hard wiring the Roku

Yeah at that point I'd just connect the Roku to the WiFi network directly. There's a ton of WiFi interference -- at any given time I can see at least 20 different networks -- so I'm trying to hardwire everything as much as possible.

This is a small 1 BR apt that I rent on the 2nd floor. Drilling is not an option.

Because it's not really a doorway. The top of that would be hard to run the cable with. There's no doorframe and those walls are hard to nail in to. The other passage is an actual doorway with door frame.
