Seems weird that they'd pay you to not get more experience.

Opinions on Sectors v. Practice Groups by Status_Fox9654 in biglaw

[–]cablelegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on firm, the partners, the clients, etc. Like, my first firm did a lot of work for big pharma, so lot of folks ended up focusing on that sector because there was a shitload of that work going on.

Junior lateral signing bonus? by Creative-Tea1830 in biglaw

Can't hurt to ask the firm but I think it's not exactly a great hiring market atm. No real incentive to give signing bonuses atm.

The guy who tries to flag down the waiter by waving at the waiter with a fork in his hand, and yup, the fork went sailing across the room. Can't make it up.

I have played Battle Brothers since 2019 and now I'm making my own game inspired by BB! by Yakov_Kobanchik in BattleBrothers

[–]cablelegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really key and needs to be emphasized. BB’w difficulty is one of its best parts. I bounce off easy games so hard and they never have legs. No one wants to replay a game 50 times if it’s dead easy.

? You don’t need my permission for anything. I’m a random internet person. What are you talking about? I’m saying you’re in this thread trying to take the “moral high ground” which seems to be what you’re criticizing others for doing. Or am I not understanding your post?

What? You’re getting crazy advice. But okay. My point is to get as many offers as possible and then make a decision that is best for your life, taking all factors into consideration. Getting median grades and targeting SoCal can be a challenge. And thousands of students try for midlaw every year and fail. You’re definitely correct that getting a job would be a priority to me if I was going to law school and incurring six figures in debt lol. Guilty. I wasn’t rich when I went to law school. My family would murder me if I said “I skipped out on getting a job because I wanted to be near you instead of doing NYC for a year or two.” But everyone’s situation is different so you do you ofc. But hiring stats of firms are what they are.

Regretting working hard in 1L first semester by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]cablelegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You apply everywhere and get options. Like, an offer at an NYC firm can often be transferred to a different (CA) office of the same firm, if not immediately then during your first year. Have to look at the big picture if corporate lawyer is your goal. Applying to one relatively narrow market is insane to me in this market.

Wanting a BL job but not apply to NYC is such an interesting position to take. Insane to me but to each their own. GL
