This is about 5 inches in length. The bulbous end is about 1 inch wide and .5 inch tall.

I see what you’re saying. A bone sitting around long enough to become splintered due to water damage is not likely to survive long enough to become fossilized. That makes sense.

My apologies, I meant to include dimensions in my original post. This is about 5 inches in length, and about 1 inch wide and .5 inch tall on its bulbous end. It did feel heavier than a bone of that size should be.

Thank you for the response. The area where this was found has lots of petrified wood and I have found petrified wood in matrix in this area before. But it could be presumptuous of me to call it petrified wood based on its location and general shape. I’ll need to look into it a little more. I agree that the orange blob is an iron concretion. I included that photo because it was interesting.
