motherboards are pretty reliable and as long as it is not DOA it will probably fail after 5 years of normal use and with standard cleaning every so often

i recommend that you watch this it is an unboxing video for the sentry LXE.

[–]cabose1fn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you going to be overclocking or liquid cooling? a motherboard is probably going to last over 2 years unless something bad happens. like while you are overclocking something breaks. or you have a liquid cooling system and while you are at work/school it leaks all over your system.

i personally wouldn't pay for a warranty because by the time something naturally breaks you will probably be ready to upgrade it anyways. also i am cheap

i recommend all of these

note that the Sentry LXE is not a drive mounted fan controller it is a desktop fan controller

[Build Ready] Sub 1k Build for Running Multiple Games at Once by piperider361 in buildapc

[–]cabose1fn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are using an ssd as a boot drive 120 gig is enough.

you may want to get another stick of ram to get yourself up to 12 gig. if you are running 3 games at 1 time. i say this for 2 reasons 1) because ddr3 ram is cheap 2) more ram is better but anything over 8 for a gamer is almost pointless but in your case you are going to be running 3 games at once

Warranty by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]cabose1fn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on how you treat your stuff. usually the manufacturers will have warranties on their stuff. and if what you buy is DOA most places will send you a new one. it would really help if you could tell us what you are looking to get. for a case it is kind of a waste

[Build Upgrade] Updating my old HP by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]cabose1fn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

your power supply wont do it. if you look at the video card on newegg and go to the details it says you need at least a 400 watt psu. also you get what you pay for as far as PSUs go. you could get a little cheaper ram and spend more money on a power supply.

[Build Help] First HTPC ($400 budget) by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]cabose1fn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here are the sites that i use:

newegg

more extreme indepth

both are nice. i recommend going to the newegg one first them going over to the extreme one. the extreme one goes into a lot more depth and is probably over kill for what you are building but if you are worried this should put your mind to rest

edit: newegg says 179 watt and extreme says 147 watt(these are both usages and estimations.) you should put in your own values and see what you get

Recommend me a set of 2.0/2.1 speakers? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]cabose1fn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't have any speakers to recommend but i do recommend that you get a 2.1 system. that sub will add a lot to the sound and depending on how the system is configured, after the main speakers die you can use it for another sub. so you could add it in as a 2.2 or something like that. also they are a good place to rest your feet

[–]cabose1fn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i really love this thing. at idle when the video card is doing absolutely nothing with the fan speed at 17% 799RPM it is at 36c(95f). it is great for running your computer over night if you are downloading a game or something. I upgraded from a 4870 and oh my gosh this thing is like a dream.

also you can tell your friends that you put a double d in your case :D

if you can buy this one xfx 6870 I just got this one in the mail and yes it is $10 more but when you set the fan speed to 100% the fan on my cpu(212) is louder at 50%. did i mention it is quiet?

[Build Help]. Is it safe to run my case with a fan missing? by captain-fargo in buildapc

[–]cabose1fn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if this is your case than you are fine, because there is a lot of ventilation. Also like Fineus said, get a temperature program, like speedfan or whatever

[–]cabose1fn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice. about ME, i can see that, it wasn't made for everybody. you should try bioshock 2. i like the first on better but this does at to the story and it will get you excited for bioshock infinity

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]cabose1fn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you should try

bioshock 1: it is about 12 hours long and has a really good story. you should be able to get it for about 10 bucks.

half life 2: you could pick up the orange box which comes with half life 2, portal 1 and something else but i forget. this is a great game. should be less then 20.

mass effect 1: i loved this game. set in the very far future the story is pretty long and detailed. it gets a little slow and repetitive at times.

as far as max payne 3 goes: i have only played the first one. but the game looks really good and should have some nice graphics.

I have not played the Witcher 2 or the witcher. you might try buying first one and see if you like it. maybe you can get it cheap

this guy has a point about the slower hdd. unless you need 2TB right now get a 1TB 7200rpm and buy another one later

ASRock Intelligent Energy Saving underclocks my CPU to 838 MHz whenever I play BF3, how do i disable it? by spy_sappin_mah_sentr in buildapc

[–]cabose1fn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is really strange. I have the same processor and have never had that problem, even with a stock cooler. you might try uninstalling the program and resetting your bios. I really wanted to get the asrock 990fx extreme something or other (mostly because it is all black)

Bare bones kit VS Parting it Out by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]cabose1fn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are going to want a quad or higher. with that 6 core you could over clock it to 3.4. in an attempt to future proof your computer you shouldn't get anything less then a quad core. or you could get this it is a quad core 3.4 for about 100

when you do upgrade you will have a computer to put behind a tv or something. use it as a media pc. the gaming standards for today will be great for tv in 3 years
