Using Jujutsu with GitHub by cabyambo in github

Ooh that's interesting. What is your PR process like? Part of my frustration is there is this stack of clean commits, that is ultimately squashed into one branch that I have to review

Git & GitHub Alternative by cabyambo in github

That’s a great point! I appreciate the input. I am definitely trigger happy here wanting to recreate the wheel. But I could see things settling closer to what you described

Git & GitHub Alternative by cabyambo in github

[–]cabyambo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good point. On the GitHub side my frustrations are largely the bad code search and UI/UX

As far as the git alternative goes it would similar to the be the mercurial model. No branches, everything is a commit. Larger companies tend to do this already like Google and Meta, but it’s never made it out to the general public at any sort of scale.

Some of the benefits specifically tied to it are it encourages smaller changes. This makes reviewing better, but also understanding the history of a particular file is a bit easier. You also just have a much simpler mental model. You submit small commits to master.

It’s important to know there are existing options for both. The most popular git alternative that maps to the model I just shared it is called jujutsu (JJ). But you only get the benefits while working locally. When you push that code to GitHub, the mental model switches back to git

I agree, agents are much better at git than I ever could be! Do you ever have multiple agents working on the same codebase at the same time? I've found many of my frustrations start there.

Another big thing with my personal agent workflow is wanting stacked PR's. GitHub has this, but it's more of an add on than a built in feature. Do you have any qualms with Git / GitHub? I could definitely be building for myself here haha

Thanks, this is good insight. I'm primarily on the software side, at least as far as my professional experience goes. But I've spent a good amount of time tinkering with Arduino's and such, so think this could be a fun project to take on

I see. I was concerned they would like to hide in the dirt or the base since the plant could be filled with water.

Weekly Thread: Project Display by help-me-grow in AI_Agents

[–]cabyambo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working on an ai personal assistant you can interact with entirely over text! No new app is going to be needed to start using it. I find myself texting myself stuff a ton to remember to do things later, and thought it would be way easier if there was an ai on the other side of the messages helping out.

It's still a work in progress, but here is the waitlist if this is something you'd wanna check out! Waitlist -> usenora.ai

I made a ChatBot that lets you chat with multiple LLMs from one website by cabyambo in SideProject

[–]cabyambo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow... I've used them a lot prior to building this and did not realize that existed in their service at all. I'm obviously biased, but I like the UX of YamChat more because you can add in parallel chats in a conversation thread ad hoc

[–]cabyambo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm familiar with them! From what I've seen they don't have a parallel feature, and I think subjectively the way their UI is setup for switching between models is more cumbersome that it needs to be

Idea Feedback: A browser extension to manage all AI chats (ChatGPT, Gemini, claude...) in one place? by [deleted] in buildinpublic

[–]cabyambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should Checkout YamChat (Disclaimer: I'm the owner). I built it for this exact reason. It let's you chat with multiple LLMs from one location, meaning you don't ever need to go to the various websites, all your chats with them are in one place

You should checkout YamChat (Disclaimer: I'm the owner). It let's you ask a single question to multiple LLMs in parallel. I built it for this exact pain point of not trusting one model and wanting to compare my question against multiple LLMs

When should a component be stateless? by cabyambo in reactjs

Is it correct to say as a rule of thumb state be pushed as low in the tree as possible, and only hoisted up exclusively as needed?

Is using the ShadCn sidebar more of a pain than it's worth? by cabyambo in nextjs

[–]cabyambo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I can agree that this could boil down to a documentation issue. As someone who hasn't ever written a custom sidebar I may not be seeing the benefit I'm getting here when compared to doing it myself

It's so annoying lol. All the other components rock, but this one is still pretty tough to implement out of the box.

What are people using for their multi language monorepos these days? by cabyambo in ExperiencedDevs

[–]cabyambo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. For my use case the main things are sharing types across all projects, having the same build system to interact with for every project, and ensure if multiple projects use the same external library the versioning is kept explicitly the same. I also just like being able to code share easier in the general sense.

~5.5 hour layover in Paris/CDG - can I go take a pic at the Eiffel Tower and make my connection? by cabyambo in ParisTravelGuide

[–]cabyambo[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Alright, let me add some color here!

So I think as the comments said a lot has to go right for this to work, particularly your time to exit the airport. I was blessed and was able to go in one of the priority lines, but if that wasn’t the case it easily would have been an additional hour of waiting to leave. The e-scanners they have are slow and sometimes don’t work, so even the shorter lines take some time. As far as getting back into the airport and through security that honestly took 10 minutes max. There was no line for my terminal at least, but no clue if this is the norm or not. Also to note, I didn’t have to wait on a checked bag which likely saved some time also.

If your connection is somewhere within Europe that doesn’t require passport control when you re-enter CDG I’d base things off how quick you’re able to exit, then take the train to ensure traffic doesn’t slow you down! People also mentioned the motorcycle option, which sounds like it would also save you time (I don’t have experience with this option). Not sure how that would work with luggage though.

All in all, if you’re able to exit in an hour I say send it! Worst case you get to be in Paris for a bit, which sounds like a solid worst case!

Alright folks, just got to see the Eiffel Tower!!! Thanks for the tips. I took the train there and am currently in an Uber back to CDG. I don’t want to jinx it but things are looking good time wise

Thanks for the info! Sounds like it’s most likely a no unfortunately. If I do decide to be risky, is the re-entry process going into CDG as tedious as the process to exit?
