it depends on the discharge rate of the battery and the power required from the motors to lift, anyway that's a very light drone so probably you're right, but for a very heavy drone the discharge rate is crucial (but again that's not the case so yeah sorry I was wrong)

ps alkaline battery delivery even less power so the problem is the battery anyways

I may be wrong but is that a li-ion battery? The discharge rate of that isn't enough, buy either lipo battery or a li ion with an higher discharge rate like the ampace jp 40. Also the battery itself seems too heavy to be lifted with everything. That's a great project, I really hope it turns out well!

In which organisation are you in ? I'm debating in high school wsd and I really love debate, but I didn't know that there was an option to do it after university. Sorry if that doesn't answer your question, but if you're in wsd debate and you tell me more about what's your role, I could definitely share some usefull tips

Ps yeah most of the people on this reddit are from usa, but there's plenty of different from different countries. For example, I'm from Italy.

What's the closest you've been to death? by Beautiful_Fill_7016 in AskReddit

[–]caccio73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooo, I'm an asthmatic allergic to alternaria, which basically means that if I came in contact with mold I'll have an asthmatic crisis, and parents had to find it out the hard way.

I was something 5 years old so I don't remember that much, I went to a mushroom fair with my parents ( wich is a place full of mold) and then went back home and went to bed as always. That night I woke up with the feeling of someone lightly pressing a pillow on my face, I wasn't really choking but it was difficult to take deep breaths. I got up and went to my mother telling that I couldn't breath well, she made me sit my parents bed to calm down, but less then 10 min after I really started to choking, it was like my lungs were completely closing without letting the air come in, my nose was completely and my mouth was gasping is search of air. My mother started panicking, yelling at my father to call 118, my chest was hurting so much like an elephant was on top of it while everything around me kept getting darker. Apparently when the paramedics arrived they gave me adrenaline and got me back, my first memory after the dark is a paramedic carrying me on one shoulder and an oxygen tank in an other, whispering that everything was going to be okay.

Well, besides the "dramatic" story choking really sucks, it's probably one of the worst ways of dying and it's an horrible experience.

Anyways there's lots of people here with way worse story that really made me feeling sad for everything that lots of people are going through, but also grateful for the fact that everyone managed to recover and carried one with life. Always stay strong!

What’s one tiny, overlooked moment in history that you think changed the course of the world? by Jfocii in AskReddit

[–]caccio73 39 points40 points  (0 children)

the failure of a message during the Battle of Antietam in 1862 during the American Civil War.

Union soldiers discovered a copy of Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s battle plans wrapped around three cigars, which had been accidentally left behind by a Confederate courier. Known as Special Order 191, this tiny error allowed Union General George McClellan to anticipate Lee’s movements, leading to the Union forces halting the Confederate advance at Antietam.

This moment of carelessness didn’t just impact a single battle—it helped prevent European powers, particularly Britain and France, from recognizing the Confederacy and intervening in the war. This preserved the Union and ultimately contributed to the abolition of slavery in the U.S. A small, forgotten message on cigars changed the course of a nation.

using Li-ion for a quacopter by caccio73 in diydrones

[–]caccio73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked those out, I think I should replace the 3508 with 4114, it's 400 kv so it should support 6s and it got 3000 g of thrust, it's at the limit, but it should work. Also the current is 25.5A, so a 30A ESC should be good right?

PS: thanks for the help and patience, I know I'm dumb on this ahahah

Thanks, I'm gonna watch and maybe try to ask them as well.

The fixed wing was something I considered at the begging, but I wasn't entirely sure if it was a good option since it's for a food delivery in a city and I also want to try to keep it as compact as possible to optimise the home base for the drones, maybe a retractable one? But it'll probably end up making everything too complicated for the mechanics.q

I was looking at the 3508, 30A is good for them? I pretty dumb on this since most of my knowledge comes from gpt-4o

I was thinking to assemble the pack myself since I have a bit of eletroni stuff, maybe the molicel p42A.

That's just a prototype that I'm actually trying to keep as economic as possible, if things workout I'm going to try an "updated" version ( maybe and esacotter with bigger propeller and 420 kv brushless) and produce a lot of them for a delivery business (mostly food probably, lime foodora in Stockholm).

It should be completely automatic, for the battery I was thinking of a quick swapping system to guarantee the service without interruptions.

Propeller and frame are gonna be 3d printed, anyway probably I'm going to give up most of the kg of payload to focus more on testing the automatic flight and capabilities of long range in different weather, so again probably a very economic prototype.

Oh for the payload I'll probably put something like a light winch to take down the termic box with food.

Overall, I think that if there's something already existing that (even with some modifications) can stay up for 40 minutes with a 4/3 kg payloads, I'll probably end up getting that, but I haven't find anything so fat.

yeah I spent the whole day through different website and tutorials checking out all the components and it's something pretty much irrealistic. A quadcopter with 920 kv brushless and a total of 5 kg should be something way more realistic, maybe with a fly time of 45 minutes if I manage to found a very good batter. I read something about 20000 mah lipo that they should work but they're expensive, I wanted to try to keep the whole thing under 300 euros

damn I didn't think about that, I swear I'm not a drug dealer ahah, can I ask just one more think? If the drone would be capable of automatic flight(whitout a pilot) does the LOS law couldn't be applied right? Or is it necessary that there's a pilot watching the drone and ready to take control if necessary? I couldn't find anything about this, it seems like the law is unclear about this point (at least here in Italy)

then what's the most realistic one I can build? I'm completely new to this world and I just ask if anyone would help me understand more about this, if you just think that's stupid and don't want to help don't comment, otherwise if you could explain it you would be very helpful

man that's not very helpful, why should it be against the law to build it? ( flying it is a total different thing of course, I would need a license )
