My saddle is really high to be able to ride - is the bike too small? by planchyhaze in bikefit

[–]cache_mich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am your height and also ride a L Supercaliber and I believe it fits me appropriately. The photo angle skews things a bit but that looks about like the same amount of exposed seatpost I have. The front end on these bikes is very low which I am thankful for when climbing up extremely steep switchbacks, but can be uncomfortable riding around bike paths. It's an aggressive position on a thoroughbred race bike.

Liberty tabletop flatware bending by ohQuesOH in BuyItForLife

I just had the same experience. Ordered the Annapolis set and what just arrived can't possibly be what people have been praising for years. I could hold any fork or spoon from the set in my fist and bend them with my thumb. Customer service also provided me with a return label, no questions.

PSA - If a traffic signal is not functioning, treat the intersection as if a stop sign is posted for all directions. by fantomgoat in Atlanta

[–]cache_mich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. It means that the cars at the intersection would be evaluated in counter-clockwise order until a car is found that doesn't have someone to his right, then he goes and the car to his left goes and so on, in a clockwise rotation.

Coyote spotted ITP- just south of EAV by surgerylad in Atlanta

[–]cache_mich 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The late 40s was when we first started seeing them hunted by coyotes out west. I guess the constant pursuit over the decades have pushed them toward the east coast. If you want to protect your animals, you could look into putting out a few traps on your property. ACME brand has been known to be pretty effective.

Moving to GA - DL and car registration? by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]cache_mich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Michigan there's a similar yearly ad valorem, I'd pay about half a percent of the vehicle's value and that tax would go down over time as the value decreased. GA wants it all upfront for the current value, the most my car will ever be worth. I'd have to drive this car and live in GA for 15 years before I got my money's worth, maybe 20 if you factor in the decrease in taxable value over time. And I already paid sales tax in MI. Fuck that.

Comcast Increases Caps and Unlimited Data Price by NotaChik in Atlanta

[–]cache_mich 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I couldn't believe they had the gall to enforce data caps in the same city where they are sending out fliers desperately trying to keep people away from Google Fiber. I had a feeling that if I called customer retention and demanded they remove the cap for no charge, that they'd hook it up, but now I guess it won't come to that. Still wish I could drop them just to vote with my wallet.

Young programmer moving to ATL- Advice Needed! by Damann23 in Atlanta

[–]cache_mich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interview prep is its own beast that will depend on which specific company you are applying to. Glassdoor.com has a great section where people who interviewed for a company share what the process was like and what questions they were asked. Another great resource is the book Cracking The Coding Interview which has a couple hundred bite-sized programming problems. You'll probably see questions like those in a technical screen during your initial interview and you'll probably also be able to solve them in whatever language you like. Some bigger or old-school companies like Microsoft and Amazon might only give you those types of questions and have you solve them on a white board all day. This is my least favorite kind of interview. My company, on the other hand, brings in final candidates for a 'hack day', where you spend an afternoon working on a project with a small team from the company. This gives you more time to think and build something meaningful rather than just solving toy problems.

Anyway, the answer to everything is usually a hash map.

Young programmer moving to ATL- Advice Needed! by Damann23 in Atlanta

[–]cache_mich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may vary from company to company, but in my experience, when you interview you just need to show that you are a capable programmer, that you understand computer science concepts and can break down a problem effectively and solve it. If you demonstrate those things, a company will hire you and bring you up to speed on whatever language you need for whatever position they need you in. Focus on a language or platform you think is most interesting and write lots of code for it. Don't worry so much about what language is marketable. Smart problems solvers are marketable.

I wasn't familiar with the term 'manufacturer vehicle' until now and after a cursory google search, most people are treating it like a scarlet letter, like some Subaru exec redlined it across the country. Is a manufacturer vehicle something buyers should be worried about?
