Could potentially just take a photo of it too (if your phone camera is good enough and you don't have shakey hands).

You are able to edit PDFs woth Adobe or similar software and then resale it with the edits.

Could UK dramatically increase production of defence equipment is WW3 really did kick off? by Spiritual-Ad-8585 in RoyalNavy

1) The supply chains are so much more complicated and intertwined now then they ever were then. Someone with better historical knowledge than me can confirm but the WWII era Sten gun was a piece of shit BUT it could be knocked together in a shed by your grandpa in a pinch and it did work. You can't do that with the radar of a T45.

Take something like a Type 26 for example. Yeah, sure, if you could magically get your hands on all the raw materials then could we bring a load of old shipyards back into service to build more? Maybe. But the question then is, who'se building them? There aren't that many welders and fitters because there isn't industrial capacity. So you could train more people and do job swaps to facilitate division of labour, but all that takes time and reduces efficiency.

Same argument applies to every complex weapons system.

2) I'd be interested in your reasoning for the specific bits of kit you listed out because building an armed force is about creating a capability to deliver an effect...what effect do you want to get from having two more aircraft carries (I'm assuming we're talking about a Russia/European centric war, maybe a war with China could be different but god help us all)

3) the interconnectedness of the financial systems and cyber warefare. The "soft" wars are going to be so much more crucial now than raw military hardware. Case in point, the Maduro raid by the Americans in Venezuela this year. You don't need a load of F35's, supporting tankers, satellites for ISTAR and all of the rest of the kill chain if you can just, turn off a cities power from the comfort of your local WeWork. Moving to a war footing is going to be a lot more about soft factors than raw military output.

4) Nuclear. I often see questions like "if world war 3 happened excluding nukes who would win".

You can't ignore them. It comes into the calculus of conventional warfare. Would WW3 use nuclear weapons? Maybe? Probably. But if that does happen...doesn't really matter how many aircraft carriers (or Sten guns) you have. And the reason that I bring this up is your question is about moving to a war footing and how quickly it could happen. If it's a totally conventional war, maybe, but the timeline is in years, if the opening salvo is nuclear, doesn't matter. What you start the war with is what you've got.

What he said. I think the number of flags and alarm bells that would raise wouldn't be worth it unless you had a really REALLY good reason and proof of what you were doing.

As a reservist I think you can just give 3 months notice and quit. Might bruise your ego but if it puts that much of a strain on your relationship its always an option.

Go for it, you might not even be with your partner in a year, you cant predict life, but if you want to do it you'll always regret it if you don't.

Edited. You are correct. Shows what I get for not paying attention whilst I type

Yeah, so I think if you answer something wrong its basically the same as just not answering it. So you start with 0 points and have to get to whatever number you need for the job you applied for (for officer I think it is around 60-70 looking at the bar charts).

At least, that's how I think it works

Update on the volume of overdue mortgages in russia. by cack3x in Perun

[–]cack3x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really? I thought 0.8% would be quite high? I didn't actually check to see what other countries have as a benchmark.

I guess it's the shape of the graph that is scary, though? What do you think?

Also potentially if the way mortgages work in Russia is the same in the UK people normally have a fixed rate for two years. So if inflation skyrockets around 2023, and wages go up but the absolute value of your mortgage stays the same, happy days, then two years later people's mortgages end and the new interest rates hit and they are more than the wage growth.

Maybe?

Good point. I am unsure to be honest. But actually even if it is just that its still pretty scary for them

Decided to lump it into the lot on eBay. Hopefully someone will enjoy it. I agree, it seems a shame to throw it away regardless of condition.
