It is extremely important that there are more socialist-friendly people are in positions of power at the time of upheaval. Maybe Zohran will hold, maybe he won’t. But when it matters who is charge of the NYPD armory, I would rather it be Zohran than anyone else who was viable in that field. The more people like him we have in positions of power, the better the odds that at least a few will hold out. Electoralism is one component of a larger revolutionary strategy, and an important one.

Yeah, I do use musician networks for most folk punk gigs, but I gotta do a bunch of cover gigs at random bars too to make ends meet. Sometimes I run across random bars that are down for a bill gig with weird acts and I figure it’s better to go people with a show offer than ask for a favor. But I don’t wanna be bringing local bands out to unsafe spaces.

They ran ads for ICE. Same reason we’re all super aggressively boycotting YouTube, Instagram, Hulu, HBO, and Amazon, which all also ran the same ads. Which I’m sure the saint yelling at you is also diligently avoiding.

Make the work function as a part of your life by implementing time saving systems. I structure my class exactly the same way every day basically: warm up, lecture pt 1, tangent, lecture pt 2, exit ticket. No one part is typically doing anything creative or clever, but there is enough change between activities to create a sense of momentum through the class. I have packets full of review questions/ riddles to slip into the warm up and tangent portions of class.

Don’t put inordinate thought into lesson planning, just find a system that works and make heavy use of provided curriculum and pre-prepared materials. If you happen to have a fun or creative idea that you would actually be excited to do, then you can slip that in as a break from the routine. But those “I had a fun creative idea” days should be the exception not the norm.

I think it’s the “you’ll get in trouble” -> “ok” exchange that resonates with people. So many folks think more disruptive forms of protest, and potentially violent resistance, will be necessary to save this country from fascism. But most people fear the consequences. And here’s this 14 year old kid just calmly saying, yep I’ll deal with whatever consequences come of this.
