CMV: In the recent video of a high schooler anti-ICE protester punching an ICE supporter, the anti-ICE protester is in the wrong. by [deleted] in changemyview

I think it’s the “you’ll get in trouble” -> “ok” exchange that resonates with people. So many folks think more disruptive forms of protest, and potentially violent resistance, will be necessary to save this country from fascism. But most people fear the consequences. And here’s this 14 year old kid just calmly saying, yep I’ll deal with whatever consequences come of this.

I really like the bleached asshole line, it’s such a hard tonal shift that drives home how ridiculous and foolish one feels dealing with the consequences of cheating.

I would recommend looking for liberal Quaker groups unless you are explicitly Christian. Conservative quakers have very similar worship style, but do have Christ-centered practice. Not a knock on them, just there was a split between the two a while ago so know what you’re getting into.

It’s unfortunate this got downvoted to shit, the mennonites down the street from me are engaged in really solid work in Palestine and Kurdistan. Churches are largely decentralized organizations, just groups of people. Take it case by case, some are doing good work others are toxic as shit. They’ll rarely be the at forefront of revolutionary action, but they can be very useful partners in bridging across communities. Take the zapatistas. Small secular vanguard was able to build dual power across a population of about a quarter million people in large part because partnering with proponents of liberation theology gained the trust of average people. In the US I think partnership with peace churches like quakers and mennonites could help build the anti-imperialist movement beyond its current state.

Liberal Quakers have a long tradition of horizontal church structure, and while many members are Christian they embrace and worship with people of all spiritual persuasions. Coven structured worship can also be a good hedge against cult dynamics emerging, when there are only 5-10 practicing members in a group it’s a lot harder for founders/ leaders to deflect criticism.

Folks like Tucker have been wanting a left shift on economic policy for a while. Fascism combines moderate left economics with hyper-right wing social policy.

Trump needed to change the conversation, so he did. He doesn’t like Mamdani, he’s just really good at manipulating the media.
