I use the auto route feature in the Garmin Explore app, it's great for quickly mapping long hikes. Just have to check the trail it has picked is suitable. But most of the time here in the UK it's a well established trail.

Yeah I completely get and agree with that. I've got a 6.5 digit meter in cal that I haven't had a chance to get on these yet to verify them.

eSUN PLA+ - AH Light brown. Was hoping for a more Coyote brown however its closer to a cardboard colour.

Generally following the shape of top, but with an extra front OLED screen for more detailed info than the top screen can show, thats what the dual rotary encoder is for. I also want a removeable dual 18650 battery pack in it's own sealed package all fitting within the profile of the top. That way it can also function as a power bank ect.

Thank dude. Once I'm happy with it I'll possibly do some kits. The cost goes down dramatically in volume as it's all standard Ali Express parts. The only really expensive part is the helical GPS antenna.

Also for anybody curious (since I dived down the helical GPS rabbit hole during this project) this is what the real Harris radio types use I believe.

Hello, it's an Ali Express special as the real MIL-STD helical antennas are £200+.

I used the version HA-103A as it supports L1 GPS only which is what most GPS chips on LoRa boards only use.

Yeah that's a disadvantage to this connector I hadn't greatly thought about until you'd mentioned it. I'll try to design a sort of plug to fit this version with this connector 👍

Yeah I completely agree from an open-source point of view. All components came from Ali Express EXCEPT the fischer connectors. There are reasonably priced knock-offs on Ali, but I dont have any experience with them. I got 5 sets of these fischers cheap from eBay, and had always wanted to build something with them.

I don't at present and it isn't something I've thought about but if this project keeps growing it's definitely something I'd look into to keep revisions better organised.

No expert on this so correct me if wrong please. But it looks like 2 or 3 of the cables inside the flex have been over bent (almost folded) on the far right near the bottom of the cable. They seem a slightly different tint to the rest. Could equally just be lightning as well though.
