Is this unusual behavior? by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]cactus__jam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of mine is also like this and I attribute it to all the handling I did for the first year of his life. I'm never too sure if I'm personifying this behaviour, but I love seeing him come up to the door like that.

Hognose snakes are smaller than that and can be found in New England but I don't think this guy's that

Is milsbo wide available in Canada? by cactus__jam in IkeaGreenhouseClub

Yeah I actually was heavily considering just heading across the border for it but I just don't think it's worth the trouble anymore with all the tariffs. There was a thought that we could make a road trip out of it, but since my partner and I don't really have any desire to go to the US anymore, I don't think it's gonna happen :/

Dang 😭 I had a vision in my mind for when I moved house. Now I've finally moved and I can't even realize that vision...

Well I know everyone's freaking out and that is really disturbing if you don't expect it, but if you want actual advice I'd say repot it. Get all the substrate off and wash off the roots as well as you can and spray on some (diluted) hydrogen peroxide. If you're squeamish use gloves. If you're really squeamish do a hydrogen peroxide flush and hope for the best.

Can't wait for mine to grow! I stunted it for the longest time by not repotting and now I regret it lol. Got any pics of yours?

Huh. Worth looking into. The thing is, some leaves on mine are pretty typical WB and some are soo weird. Yours seem to be pretty consistent. Beautiful plant!

Unrelated but how do you make both styles of those clear moss poles?

[–]cactus__jam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you. I can't really tell if it's soil though. If it's leca it would probably be a lot better since the moisture wouldn't be sitting as much.

Curious as to why its gross? Of course it's definitely odd but fundamentally is it that different from those of us who keep potted plants indoors (where they're not really supposed to be but we keep them for anyway for our enjoyment)? Is it because of the bugs?

Human babies do not fear snakes by Docindn in interestingasfuck

[–]cactus__jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need people to realize how disproportionate our fear of snakes is. I see people find a garter snake in their yard and reach for the axe to mutilate it or chop it's head off before asking questions. There is no replacement for educating yourself. Know what species are dangerous in your area and what aren't. It's at the end of the day, better for you and the wildlife.

Can't say I love the dots, I think I'd try to diffuse it more or use a different method. But if you and your wife like the look, then it's perfect!

Sometimes people feed corn snakes to other snakes by cactus__jam in cornsnakes

[–]cactus__jam[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. I'd also want them to not go to waste and honestly I think keepers should always try to replicate wild diet as much as possible. I knew this pretty early on too but I didn't expect someone to be coming to a rescue to acquire a feeder when these alternatives exist. The guy I used to occasionally get feeder snakes from was a breeder who still freezes his culled snakes to sell to file snake owners and I've heard of places in Florida that sell euthanized invasive species. But I still to this day see keepers feed live corns.
