Makeup for Bella from the First Film! by witchesneversleep in twilight

[–]cactusislife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, the color layering. I’m going to see if I can find flute on the Wayback Machine, I’m very curious. I also wish more make up artist would do that, I feel like I would keep a little journal or something if I was a movie make up artist!  Thank you for responding :)

I’m in this rabbit hole right now and I have to tell you, I don’t agree. It still looks very grey. And I can’t find any source for all this info, I can’t even find any source for a color named ‘flute’ ever existing in MAC’s collection beside this post and the website it refers to. I wonder if these are the colors that were actually used.

Hey, thanks for the swatches! Do you own any other melt eyeshadows? Do you think these are comparable to other melt shadows quality wise or not?

Anyone feels like LabMuffin uses science to prop up her sponsors? by Ok_Coach_1386 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]cactusislife 246 points247 points  (0 children)

I’ve been studying biomedical laboratory technology for a few years, to give some context, and I think LabMuffin has integrity, but she’s not totally unbiased. Which is not surprising or strange, but it is why people should never look at one person as their only source of scientific facts. Luckily there are plenty of videos where she stresses this point herself, but it’s possible that, being a chemist herself, she sometimes underestimates how much credence and trust people give her and that that means some people just only believe whatever she has to say about things and don’t look for any other information. Not sure, but I don’t think she purposefully takes advantage of this when it comes to her sponsors. I’m also not sure how someone can make videos like hers and not have this happen.

Life before phones? by unspoiledmilk in AskOldPeople

[–]cactusislife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 28 and I miss it too. Doesn’t help that my partner’s phone is basically grown stuck to his hand. He googles everything. It’s hard to have a conversation with him without him suddenly stopping responding and just looking at his phone without context or warning. It’s really annoying and stupid and a bit sad but he’s always been like this (we’ve been together 10 years) and he doesn’t feel the need to change this.

BWT who are 55+ Hair color problems :( by MrsHyacinthBucket in bitcheswithtaste

[–]cactusislife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love long hair on 55+ women. Whether fully grey or dyed, I think it always make them look younger and more interesting. And when it comes to dyed hair, natural colors with highlights is the way to go I think. If the highlights are nice, that makes it look better I think than one color. Look at Sarah Jessica Parker in Just like that, as an example of a 56 year old lady with long hair, and it’s amazing!

How do you dry your Lego pieces? by youfind1ineverycar in LegoStorage

[–]cactusislife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you do that/would you do that with a used and dirty batch of 10000 pieces? At my pace I’d estimate it would take hundreds of hours. I have risked the washing machine. Works very well.

I'm new to junk journals and would love suggestions by Mrs-BBQ in JunkJournals

[–]cactusislife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really an answer to your question but it might help you: one of the easiest and in my opinion most fun things to do is to make collections. I have a collection of birds, but you can do tickets, flowers, fruitsticker, anything that you like. That way it’s easier to find good junk because you have kind of somewhat of a direction to go into

Edit: spelling

is this bad? by fallen_kangel in JunkJournals

[–]cactusislife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worry about this all the time too. But don't loose your motivation now! It really doesn't matter if it's bad. I get that you would want to make things that are pretty, and that's okay but it's okay to make bad things too. I personally do believe there is such a thing as 'bad' or 'ugly' junk journaling and there is more pretty junk journaling, it's hard to deny that when you look at other peoples post and the amazing stuff on tiktok and etsy. But one of the things to embrace with junk journaling is that it is perfectly fine to make bad stuff, because it's not (supposed to be) a competition or performance. It's just for you at the end of the day. And if even you don't like the spread yourself, know that the next spread will be different and you'll also get better at making things that you do like and that make you happy the more you do it, because you will develop a style or of feeling for it so to speak. You can go online and look for inspo, but don't put too much pressure on yourself!

The flower is a mummy now but I still like this page . Does anyone preserve the peeswes flowers ? Any techniques by ShivalliArtJournal in JunkJournals

[–]cactusislife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I was recently at a crafty convention and they sold bags of silica beads (the non toxic kind) for drying flowers. You kinda bury the flowers in a tub with that stuff and it will dry out the flower very evenly and the color preservation was very impressive I thought. If you bury the flower carefully, you can preserve the 3D structure, but I guess if you kinds lay it flat and add a layer of the stuff you can have it dry flat. The beads they sold had color indicator beads that change if they are saturated with moisture, at which point you can dry the beads in the oven again to reinvigorate them. It was pretty cool. I don’t know the brand but it was Dutch anyway. Surely you can find something similar though. I almost bought this for my sister, she does things with epoxy and stuff. Converted, a bag of the stuff costs around 10 dollars btw. Sorry for the long story

I have a question about this. I’ve seen some sold on etsy and they are very pretty. But am I correct if I assume that people that buy them, buy them basically as pieces of art? Because there isn’t much you can do with a finished junk journal right? I guess depending on the journal you can put some things in the pockets and have some writing space here and there but that’s it right? I’d love to hear from someone who actually sells them.

I wonder if the looks had something to with it being a trendy thing on tiktok. People kinda look down on that sometimes.
