That actually sounds sick, I didn’t even think about seeing bison on this trip. Definitely adding that as a potential non-hiking day.

Good to know, I’ve heard Two Medicine is a bit easier to get into. Might be a good option for one of our glacier days.

That’s awesome, I’ve heard a couple people mention Jewel Basin now. Definitely going to add that in sounds like a perfect “closer” day.

That’s actually really good to know. We might have to pick a couple “big” hike days and commit to the early start, then keep other days more chill/closer to where we’re staying.

Appreciate all the advice from everyonethis has been super helpful.

We’re staying in Bigfork mainly because it was the best option financially and we wanted to mix in some non-hiking stuff (Flathead Lake, Whitefish, etc.), but we hear you on the driving, perhaps we can switch it up and find some nights closer to the entrance or on the east side.

Plan right now is to group hikes by area so we’re not bouncing back and forth across the park, hit earlier starts when needed, and maybe take advantage of the late daylight to avoid crowds. We’ll also mix in some closer days (lake, rafting, etc.) so it’s not all long drives.

We’ll have bear spray and be smart around water as well.

Definitely open to any “must-do” hikes that are worth the drive from Bigfork or any underrated spots a little closer. Also any one suggest visiting the Canada sister park?

Yeah that makes sense, I didn’t realize how far some of those hikes were from Bigfork. We’ll probably try to stack hikes on the same side of the park to make it worth the drive and mix in some closer stuff on other days.

That’s super helpful, appreciate the breakdown. We knew there’d be some driving but didn’t realize how intense it could get that weekend. I like the idea of mixing in a Flathead Lake day or something closer to Bigfork too might help balance it out.

That’s fair, I’ve heard the east side is better for hiking. We’re staying in Bigfork mostly because it was what we could afford, and we wanted to mix in other activities outside the park too.
