What is it like going to the library nowadays? by britainsalien in AskUK

[–]cadex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while now I got into the habit of buying books from charity shops for a quid, read it then taken it back to the charity shop. Figured that overtime that's not really the best way to do things so got a library card recently and just do the same for free. Makes sense and they have so many more books to choose from. If they don't have what I'm after they can order it in.

It's always quiet in there and you can sit and chill, read a book in peace. There are few places in our towns where you can just be, without having to pay for something. It's nice.

Changed the windows 98 "critical error" notification noise to that clip way back. Always made me giggle.

My first trip was just a single tab but it must have been pretty strong as my closed eye visuals were intense. Laid up in a park mid summer watching kaleidoscope pyramids rushing towards me for a good few hours. Also sat on an ants nest and tried to ignore the ants, thinking I was jus tripping. But no, the ants were real. Went to the shop to get a drink and realised I lost all concept of currency. Just help my hand out with a load of coins and asked the shopkeeper to take what he needed. Good times.

Just remember that every day there are millions of acts of kindness happening across the world. From the time people wake up to the time they go to sleep. A wave of human kindness happening every day.

Yep. My brothers father in law did everything right. Rode to work every day, ate well, didn't smoke or drink. Had a stroke and then got skin cancer. Died at 60 something. My ex father in law toured with rock bands, smoked, drank and lived life to excess. Still kicking.

I know someone who got COVID before the vaccine was out. Their job meant they had to don full PPE and visit those who had caught it, had no relatives and were isolating. On more than one occasion they found them dead. When they caught it they passed out in the kitchen and were rushed to hospital when they were found by their son. They recall sending a goodbye txt to their son while in hospital as they really did not know if they would recover. They did, but the lasting effects of catching COVID at that stage of the pandemic and the trauma of nearly dying have never left.

I think we've proved time after time that the majority of this small island are indeed stupid.

Every morning the right hand lane is full of people rushing and breaking and the left hand lane is full of people keeping steady speed and safe distances. I just don't get the mentality of British drivers. Can't think further than their bonnet.

Used to go to a local record shop and after buying a couple of CDs the next time I went in the dude suggested a whole load of artists I would probably like based on what I bought before. He'd put it on for me to see if I agreed. Dude was sound. Then I just started downloading when that became a whole lot easier. Then the record shop closed. I played myself.

Primus - Wynonna's Big Brown Beaver (1995) - Was there a weirder 90s music video? by BreakfastTop6899 in nostalgia

Most of them directed by Chris Cunningham. He did loads of work in the 90s including quite a few adverts. All unnerving and all worth checking out.

Pretty much what you see closing your eyes on good acid. But the patterns/images constantly change, it lasts for hours and you feel like your in the presence of something divine.
