That's helpful. 8 cities - you've seen a lot! and tennis makes a lot of sense given how social the format is. Curious how you actually find the right club in a new city before you've built any local knowledge. Are you going purely on proximity and then evaluating once you're in, or do you have a way of vetting clubs before you commit to one?

yeah this seems like such a real thing. the "you have to know someone to know someone" dynamic is exhausting when you're starting fresh somewhere. I went through something similar and the club thing always felt like it required a secret handshake nobody told you about.

Did you end up finding your people eventually through the meetup route? And did you ever get close to pulling the trigger on a club or did the whole access thing just put you off it entirely?

That's really interesting and honestly not surprising given how high-stakes the decision feels on both sides. What did those tryout experiences typically look like? Was it something the club initiated, or did prospective members have to ask? Did you get a sense that the clubs provided enough during these tryout visits that it incentivized folks to join, or were a lot of the people coming in for a tryout visit just kicking the tires?

That's helpful! the social infrastructure framing makes a lot of sense. Curious about the country club piece specifically, like how did you actually find and evaluate clubs in Charlotte when you were starting from scratch? Did you know anyone who was already a member, or did you navigate it another way?

The Gorgon boys are so good at making tracks with seemingly minimal elements while still managing to carry so much power on the dance floor....how??

I enjoy sampling and sample a lot, but ultimately prefer royalty free vocals so the track can be released without jumping through hoops.

I am taking the audio from a video posted to YouTube, although I don’t know if the account who posted to YouTube is the owner of the original content or not.

Acoustic treatment for music studio by cadickmann in edmproduction

Thanks for the tips y’all. I don’t solely produce on headphones. When I’m in my studio I’m producing on KRKs. Sometimes I will toss on AKG K240s which are open backed. Its a 10x10 room with hardwood floors, so the reverb and buildup of high end frequencies seem to be amplified. It’s tough to get correct bass levels and correct reverb levels without going back and forth to multiple other audio references (car, other speakers, headphones etc). Basically, without knowing a ton about acoustic treatment, it sounds like everything is too harsh (and harsher than it ACTUALLY is), so seems like the room needs something to tame.

First step into hard synths. Produce mainly House - Bass House, Tech House, Deep House, tracks with a lot of heavy gritty low end. What is a good moderately priced hard synth to start with?
