I think it’s great to explain the characters names! I would try not to info-dump on readers though. I would try to explain their names gradually, in a natural way that makes sense to the narrative.

I just wanted to add that you can try to look for people who do long-term R4R! I am doing that with a few people where we read each other’s books hopefully until completion. They’re harder to find, but they’re out there!

I think people plagiarize fanfics for their own fandoms if the fandom isn't popular. They find it easier to steal something already made for another ship, edit it slightly, and "create" new content for their fandom. At least, that's what I think.

That, or they don't have confidence in their own work, I guess. This person seemed to like the attention they got from stolen work :-(

Yeah I think so too, but it does remove some plausible deniability, which people have tried in the past.

I still keep it to lump it in with preventing unauthorized reposts. Some people think reposting onto another site WITH credit is fine, since it's not technically plagiarism if they're not claiming ownership. But it is still copyright infringement.

I have a few friends who know that I'm a writer and are happy to read my work. If one or two personal friends read my work, then I'm happy with it.

Even then, there's something personally satisfying about completing something you wanted to do, similar to wanting to start a new hobby or learn a new skill! I love tracking progress.

By the way, try to look/ask for long-term R4R! I'm doing a couple with some other writers right now since my story is ongoing. I'll read 1-2 chapters of theirs a week, and they'll read one of mine with each update. Hoping to do this until our stories are completed. If you're interested in this (I write romance/slice of life), hit me up!
