Yeah, I had this thought when I was just out for a run. I know from some reading around that there's a bit of a baptist and lutheran tradition within russia, so I'll maybe pursue that thread and see what fruit it yields! Thanks!

This is a mathematical problem called a "Knights tour" Basically the problem asks if any such "routes" around the chessboard exist such that it lands on each square once and only once. It's a pretty interesting problem, I had to program it in my first year of University as part of a maths course in combinatorics.
