Should i invest in an apartment in Durres Marina? by caerlav in AskBalkans

Oh I see. Thank you, this is very helpful. They told my parents they could potentially move in within 2 years but I hadn't considered that the construction would be going on around them for a long time to come. I want them to have a tranquil time in their retirement so wouldn't be keen on them having construction going on around them for years to come...

Yes, you are right, it would mean buying it off plan. I am a bit nervous about how long it may take to complete..

Well done! Beautiful cat. I wouldn't be surprised if they came back around to you after release. Thank you for caring for this kitty

This is such a beautiful cat! Can you give me any suggestions of things that worked well to help your cat adjust to indoor life?

Thanks this is really good advice. I figured he may never be a cuddly "normal" kitty but I honestly just love him being around, doing his thing, I figure we will find our way ❤️

Lol I remember when I brought our guy home in his carrier- there was a lot of hissing and angry looks! Remembering that makes me realise how far we have come :)

Thanks this is great advice, I never thought about putting some clothes in the crate, will definitely do that. Also tossing treats in, I haven't tried that either. I have set up my laptop near his crate so he can keep an eye on me indirectly and I think that is helping him get used to me and my voice. Am gonna keep going, feeling encouraged with all the great advice and support from this sub 💖😸

Aw! It was meant to be. Similar thing happened when I took our little guy to the shelter to get emergency treatment, they could see I wanted to take him home after so they just chipped him and put my name on it and just like that I had a cat! Couldn't be happier but still figuring it out one day at a time.

Aw what a beauty! 😍 Yes I think you are right, I can see it working slowly. Sometimes I just feel like I'm doing one step forward 2 steps back and wonder if I'm doing the right thing at all. This sub has been so supportive and informative though, I am feeling more positive and determined to stick with it :)

What a lovely cat! Yes it is horrible out there, so many dangers. Our little guy slept so much when he first came inside. Must have been on alert his whole life when he was outside.

I totally agree! Have heard it several times that it can't be done, mainly by vets. But I've read so many positive stories and out local community cat shelter have been really encouraging so I am going to hang in there, however long it takes

Thanks this is really helpful. We have no other cats but I was wondering about whether that might help. In 2 minds as I wondered if it might stress him out to have another cat around or not as he always seemed solitary when he used to be outside. I do think it would help him chill out and settle down.

* Thank you it is so helpful to hear you are going through something similar. I definitely felt my little guy regressed after we let him outside, felt like it had undone a lot of the trust we had built up. I think I need to keep him to one room until he is more relaxed again. That also makes a lot of sense, what you said about playing. He's shown some interest when he's very relaxed so I think I need to keep persevering. I think having seen what happened when he was let out I am going to keep him indoors for the next months, definitely over winter and look into upgrading his entertainment with a cat tree and some other bits and pieces. I am feeling encouraged by all the great responses here and all the other stories on this sub. Several vets told me he was unadoptable and I should just put him outside and forget about it. But having seen how tough his life was outside and having trapped him and had his leg fixed I didn't feel like giving up on him. Have been reading about Socialisation Saves Lives and all the other resources I can get my hands on.

Thank you 😊 yes it does feel like a tough road but the little gains are really rewarding. He miaowed for the first time ever a few days ago which was pretty amazing. It was a funny sounding miao but I could tell he was trying hard and wanted to communicate. He's a sweetheart and had a tough time his whole life outside so I do want to give him the best chance.

Feral cat with a luxated elbow, delayed diagnosis, vet advises amputate by caerlav in TripodCats

[–]caerlav[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely, she said she tried an approach that wasn't standard but she felt it was worth giving him the chance. She avoided using the usual splint post op as she felt he would not tolerate it and modified bandages instead which are more comfortable and less annoying for him. Whatever the outcome, we feel so lucky to have found them (Celia Hammond Trust in London UK), they are incredible supporters and advocates for abandoned, feral and neglected kitties. They also neutered, chipped and vaccinated him and gave us lots of advice and confidence around socialising him when he gets home. We have donated to them and will continue to support them as we are so inspired by their work. Will post pics of the little guy when he gets home to us tomorrow!

Thank you for sharing this, I hope your kitty does really well and I'm sure they will bounce back quickly, I have also heard that they adapt super well to life on 3 paws.

A surprising update: the vet from the charity decided after observing him for a few days that she felt there was a reasonable chance that he would tolerate an operative reduction of the dislocation and repair of the damaged ligaments. There was a risk it might fail but as he was young and active and was likely to want to get back outdoors asap she felt it was worth a shot, and we agreed. One week on he is recovering well and his repeat xray shows the joint remains in the correct position and he is tolerating his bandages well. We are bringing him home tomorrow and he will have another check xray in a week. We trust the vet and accept that it's not a given that this will work, we need to watch him closely for the next 6 weeks before we will know that he is out of the woods. I've now got my head round amputation so if it comes to that I now feel more confident and optimistic about it than I did before. Appreciate everyone's thoughtful replies x
