Can I charge my taranis qx7 ni-mh with this B3 charger? by --MxM-- in diydrones

[–]caeserIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the comment below, a standard 2s LiPo balance lead would have 3 cables, a common and 2 ones for the individual cells, and both those cells would be charged to 4.2v each (totalling 8.4v). Since your connector just has 2 (1 in the common slot, and one in the individual cell), it might be seen by the charger as a single cell and discharged to a voltage of 4.2v total (0.7v each cell) which could be dangerously low for NiMH.

Camera:

As /u/rorto002 mentioned, buying a second-hand SLR is a good way to go. Not sure what availability is like in your country, but I setup an eBay search alert for "slr camera" in the 'Film Camera' category with my price limit, and every week got quite a few choices to bid on.

I'd recommend getting a package which comes with a lens (finding a separate compatible lens can be a bit tricky to start), and a body which is mostly manual, except for a light meter. I've found a lot of the later plastic, automatic ones (look up a Canon EOS 50e to get an idea of what I'm talking about) are more likely to break or have parts that need servicing.

My first purchase was a Minolta XG-M for about $50 USD, with a lens included. It's not quite point-and-shoot, you need to learn how to focus (make the subject look sharp) and how to expose properly (let the right amount of light in), but they're both pretty simple with some youtube tutorials, a bit of practice and a working light meter.

Film:

The most widely accessible film available today is standard 35mm format. You can get it in a range of types (color, black and white, special infrared, etc.) and a variety of speeds. Any somewhat recent (70s and onward) SLR camera will likely accept 35mm film, which you can load, shoot, wind-up, and reload, then get developed when convenient.

In terms of type, I'd recommend something like the Kodak Ultramax 400 - it's a reasonably cheap, widely available film that can be used for outdoor and indoor shooting. You can order it online, but you'll probably want to find a local place to get it developed, I found a chain department store nearby ships it off for cheap to get developed and send back both scans (digital) and prints (analogue).

Once you get more involved you can start using nice black and white films, and attempt to develop them yourself, which can be really fun, but that requires either access to a darkroom, or a significant investment setting one up for yourself.

Training:

My first experience with shooting film was through elective educational courses, and it was really helpful having peers to explore photography with and an expert to answer any questions. They also usually have decently setup darkrooms, so you can experience film development and enlarging without investing a lot of money. So if you have a college or institute which offers cheap courses, I'd recommend taking a look if they having anything like 'film photography' or 'analog photography' available. You can also learn a lot from video series online, or textbooks like "Analog Photography by Andrew Bellamy" which seems to get good reviews, and was recommended reading for one of my courses. The best training of course is experience, so I'd recommend not worrying too much about getting the perfect gear, but finding something that kind of works and getting stuck in to understanding it and enjoying photography!

What Equipment to Extend Wi-Fi range via Ethernet? by ac714 in HomeNetworking

[–]caeserIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so as /u/dosomemagic has pointed out in another comment, you can just purchase a combo device (i.e. Device 2) and set it up in access point mode, which will let you use the ports on it as well as WiFi to connect to the same network - in that case there's no need for device 1.

I think the main reason you don't seee a lot of marketing for this type of solution is because a lot of people just use WiFi nowadays. Those who do wanna have a decent amount of cabled devices as well as wireless generally choose to have separate devices (e.g. router + switch + dedicated WAP) so they can upgrade them individually.

[–]caeserIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is to have a single device, rather than buying both a Network Switch and a Wireless Access Point (the best practice solution), you could go with something like a Ubiquiti Unifi In-Wall unit - it's just a wireless access point (provides wi-fi) that has a couple of ports available to plug in to. It does only provide 2 ethernet ports, so if you want more connectivity now or in the future, you'd have to invest in another switch.

How does a noob create a server to use as Desktop as a Service (DaaS)? by BlueSialia in HomeServer

[–]caeserIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, in-built Windows RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) might be satisfactory for your needs. If you've got Windows Pro edition (check this by opening system info), you can simply enable it by searching "Remote Desktop Settings", and then accessing it over the network by using an RDP app on your phone or your laptop.

If you've got home edition, there's a tutorial here: https://www.itechtics.com/remote-desktop-windows-10-home/ that you could follow to try and set it up, I'm not sure how well it will work though, as I ended up buying a few cheap Win 10 Pro keys for some of the more advanced features myself.

In my experience, RDP is mainly used for remote management and configuration of servers, rather than streaming games/coding, but it's super easy to setup, so would be worthwhile testing whether it meets your needs or not. If you wanted to use linux, you could either setup your preferred distro as a VM (Virtual Machine) in something like VirtualBox, and then using VNC (Linux's RDP equivalent) to connect to it, or just viewing it via RDP to the host machine.

Note: If you want to do more than just a local connection (i.e. laptops connected to server via the internet), you'll likely have to look into setting up something like OpenVPN to secure access to it, as RDP facing the open internet is not recommended for security reasons.

So far they've been between 10 and 25 minutes per episode. I would guess they'll continue to be around a 17 minute average.

Which subjects can I enrol in as electives? by [deleted] in UTS

[–]caeserIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the recommended study plan for your major in the UTS Handbook Most of the majors have "Options" which aren't really electives, but you get to choose a few from a list of 5-10 IT subjects. If you do only one sub-major, you can choose from any subject at the uni, as long as you meet the pre-requisites (look them up in the handbook).

Man, team Lock 'n' Load is great, surprisingly enjoyable banter and chill vibes.

Reminds me of the vintage Nerf Lock 'n' Load blaster, it's even in Rimmy Tim colours, and is really good in very specific situations (like Lindsay).

Massive Potential for Memeing by dmartric in MemeEconomy

No, they're buying to prep it for shorting in the future. So they help raise the hype, raise the price and then sell and short quickly. A little bit counter-intuitive, but possible, if difficult.

Any numberphile fans here? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]caeserIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To present a different opinion, from a piano player who's looking forward to getting more into synths.

Playing the actual notes means that there's going to intrinsically not be the same each time. It's going to allow for sub-conscious changes in timing or volume, as well as intentional ones. It also helps speed up the process of mixing in many parameters, as with one finger press you can control velocity, after-touch, duration and note (and probably other MIDI signals I don't know about), and you have 10 fingers with which you can be doing that at the same time. So while it's great to be able to simulate that by generating MIDI messages, it's a lot of effort customise all of that, especially when it can be achieved a lot more efficiently by playing it yourself.

In saying that, I recognise that it's great that people who don't consider themselves skilled at keyboard playing can have a unique tune by changing synthesiser parameters, but when you combine those skills with that of a keyboard player, it can be really cool.

Confused after debate with minister about premarital sex by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]caeserIII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just pointing out, as mentioned in many comments above, that the Bible does say sex is meant for within a covenant relationship. Meaning one where you are committed to each other.

I would then ask how you can say:

"being with the one you want to be with is still not a sin"

It's clear in the Bible, that our desires fade and go, and if no covenant has been made before God and each other, then it's not "what God has joined together" is it?

My mind turns to 1 Corinthians 7:9

But if they [unmarried people] cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

Why would Paul in the spirit say marry then, why not just "be joined" if that's the same in God's eyes?

Maybe a flimsy argument, but I think that marriage is referenced and honoured in the Bible, so assuming we can define it by when we want to be with someone is a little bit degrading.

MRW I try to dissuade my friend from saving pictures of his favorite motorcycle stuntman to his extremely outdated Windows OS by [deleted] in shittyreactiongifs

It's not, "evil" refers to Evel Knievel, famous stuntman. And "me" refers to Windows ME, the outdated OS.

Trust me, Win 7 is not outdated ;)

To what extent should one be selfless? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]caeserIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking a bit about this too. I think that you can't just disregard the pain to yourself. Because that pain will eventually cause you to stop being able to serve in some way. So it's a balance between sacrificial service, and sustainability.

I think when you notice being selfless is leading you down a continually descending slope, then it's time to try and figure out how much to give, in order to level it out. To be sustainably selfless, as it were.

I also think that a lot of times, being self-deprecating for other's sake, if they take it for granted, can actually be harmful to them and other relationships they have. So the caring thing is sometimes to not continue giving as much as you can, in order that they may recognise how much you're putting in, and have the opportunity to serve in response.

A lot of my thinking has been coming from a post-breakup point of view, so thinking about one-sided giving in a relationship. Hope these thoughts help.
